Job purpose :
We are looking for an ambitious Accountant to provide support to the financial department by managing daily accounting tasks. You will be part of a team of professionals working to maintain order and transparency for Islamic Relief Canada’s finances.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Donation Revenue Management:
- Record and reconcile donation revenues accurately and in a timely manner.
- Work closely with the development team to ensure all donations are properly documented and categorized.
- Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
· Financial Data Accuracy:
- Maintain the accuracy and integrity of financial data in the organization's accounting system.
- Perform regular reconciliations of accounts related to donation revenues.
- Collaborate with other departments to resolve discrepancies and ensure consistency in financial reporting.
· Transaction Management:
- Manage high volumes of financial transactions efficiently and accurately.
- Process, review, and reconcile transactions related to donations, grants, and other revenue streams.
· Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with donor restrictions and reporting requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of documentation for external audits and reviews.
- Ensure compliance with non-profit standards, rules, regulations, and systems of internal control
Qualifications/Competencies:
Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- 2-3 years of relevant accounting/finance experience
- Demonstrate intermediate to advanced skills and knowledge of Excel, as well as other Microsoft Office applications
- Experience in preparing detailed financial documents
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Highly detail-oriented
- Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively across the organization
- Good with numbers and figures and an analytical acumen
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices
- Well-organized, and able to work well in a team environment
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Must be eligible to work in Canada
