The Calgary TELUS Convention Centre is looking to hire a full time Director, Information Technology & Cybersecurity in the Information Technology (IT) Division. Reporting to the President + CEO, this position is responsible and accountable for providing leadership, management, and directing the company’s Information Technology (IT) Department and operations. They will ensure the IT department provides efficient and effective technology with cyber-security services for the company, including upholding customer service and training of CTCC staff on all information systems and related technologies. The Director, IT & Cybersecurity is liable for the day-to-day operation and long-term strategic planning for the IT Department while ensuring the security of information technology systems is maintained. This “hands-on” position includes, but is not limited to, developing, recommending, and implementing corporate technology strategies, standards, policies, controls, IT human resourcing, service contractor management, hardware and software inventory management, licensing management and overall cyber-security for the company.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the CTCC’s IT strategy in alignment with business objectives and industry best practices.
- Provide visionary leadership and direction to the IT team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and service excellence.
- Oversee the design, implementation, operation, and continuous improvement of CTCC’s platforms to ensure that the CTCC is protected against cyber threats, and its infrastructure remains resilient.
- Provide “hands on,” tactical, and strategic leadership to the IT team while fostering a culture of openness, collaboration, and innovation.
- Responsible for the interviewing, selection, training, coaching, team building, supervising, and developing IT employees to have the skills, knowledge and support required to provide clients with high quality customer service and to ensure operational efficiencies.
- Manage third-party vendor relationships to ensure service levels are met, and CTCC benefits from high-quality services.
- Responsible for managing all IT-related service providers and their respective service agreements; including negotiating fees for services and equipment, licensing, subscriptions, validation of completed work, all corporate accounting and reporting requirements, and scheduling of services.
- Manage compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, industry standards, and data protection laws, and maintain effective operational capabilities through leveraging governance frameworks and controls for IT operations, data privacy and security.
- Project management leadership over time, budget, and resources.
- Risk Mitigation and avoidance by developing, managing, and testing safe, secure, and resilient solutions and processes.
- Direct and oversee the CTCC's IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, cloud-based, and on-premises systems, to ensure performance, availability, and security, including documenting and testing of business continuity and recovery plans. Infrastructure components include but are not limited to:
- * Storage - backup, recovery, and capacity planning.
- Servers - reliable and current for all application and IT-related service components.
- Network – resilient and effective local and wide-area, wireless and distributed networks.
- Telecommunications and VoIP - planning and management of new and existing communications systems.
- Disaster Recovery - design and testing for all key systems.
- Security - appropriate levels of security for devices, servers, and networks.
- Cloud technology, public and hybrid.
- IoT – all devices connected and integrated within the corporate locations, including building automation, security systems, and audio/visual/lighting networks.
- Manage the human capital, budgetary and financial aspects of the IT & Cybersecurity department, including but not limited to:* Create and manage approved annual capital budget.
- Create and manage approved annual operating budget.

- Work with the HR Director to organize and plan IT training for all staff.

- Lead, collaborate, and direct the CTCC IT team to interact with all staffing levels and clients regarding all aspects of IT including but not limited to:* Daily interaction with business users and managers.
- Investigation, research and replacement planning for more complex IT related systems and issues.
- Provide one-on-one, face-to-face end-user problem resolution for all internal systems.
- Respond to requests for services from clients, guests, and vendors.
- Review and recommend technology solutions to Management.
- Contribute to Management meetings.
- Prepare and facilitate presentations.
- Interact with external suppliers.

Experience and Assets
- 10-15 years’ experience in a similar position.
- Skills and knowledge in managing networks, servers, PCs, tablets, operating systems, telephone systems, standard Microsoft products, Momentous software (Ungerboeck), time and attendance systems/payroll software, reporting software, databases, and database management strategies.
- Up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices.
- Experience with risk management at the executive level.
- Conduct research in technical areas and recommend solutions that meet business needs.
- Skilled in problem-solving and analysis, change management, time management, and technology implementations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education
* Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science.
