Job Summary:
A CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Machinist is a skilled professional who operates, sets up, and programs CNC machines to produce precision parts and components. CNC machines use computerized controls to automate the machining process, enabling high precision and efficiency in the production of various materials. CNC Machinists play a crucial role in the manufacturing industry, contributing to the production of components for various applications, including automotive and more. Job Responsibilities:
Your supervisor may from time to time ask you to perform other related duties not specifically included in this job description. This job's key responsibilities include:
- Machine Setup. Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications. Program CNC machines based on the design requirements of the part. Set up and install cutting tools, fixtures, and workpieces on the CNC machine.
- Programming : Create or modify CNC programs using computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software. Input program codes into the CNC machine's control unit. Debug and optimize CNC programs to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Operational Monitoring : Monitor CNC machines during operation to ensure they are producing parts to specifications. Adjust machine settings, feed rates, and tool offsets as needed for optimal performance. Ability to identify and troubleshoot issues with CNC machines or programs. Perform routine checks and inspections to maintain quality control.
- Tool Changes: Replace cutting tools and adjust tool offsets as necessary. Knowledge of different cutting tools, their applications, and proper tool selection for specific machining operations.
- Quality Control : Inspect finished parts for accuracy and quality. Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify dimensions. Make adjustments to the CNC machine or program to correct deviations from specifications.
- Maintenance and Troubleshooting : Conduct routine maintenance on CNC machines to ensure proper functionality. Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with the CNC machine or program. Make necessary repairs or adjustments to resolve problems.
- Material Handling: Load raw materials into CNC machines and unload finished parts. Operate material handling equipment, such as forklifts or cranes, as needed.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed records of CNC programs, setup instructions, and tooling information. Record production data, including quantities produced and any quality issues.
- Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment. Identify and address safety hazards associated with CNC machining.
- Collaboration: Communicate with engineers, designers, and other team members to clarify specifications or resolve issues. Collaborate with colleagues to optimize machining processes and improve efficiency.
Job Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent is typically required.
- 3 and 5 axis experience is preferred.
- Vocational training, technical school, or an apprenticeship program in machining or CNC operations is preferred.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Ability to use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
- Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software for programming CNC machines.
- Knowledge of CNC programming languages, such as G-code and M-code.
- Ability to create, modify, and troubleshoot CNC programs.
- Expertise in setting up CNC machines, including loading materials and tools.
- Experience in operating CNC machines and monitoring the machining process.
- Attention to detail to ensure parts meet specified tolerances and quality standards.
- Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to perform calculations related to machining processes, tool offsets, and dimensions.
- Problem-solving skills to optimize machining processes and address deviations from specifications.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and practices in a manufacturing environment.
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to follow instructions and convey information related to machining processes.
- Relevant work experience with CNC machines, including setup, programming, and operation.

Working Conditions:
May be exposed to noise, dust, and other hazards. Must be able to lift and carry heavy equipment and will be required to stand for long periods of time.

- Work in compliance with ABC Standards, EHS Policies, Local, Regional and Federal acts, bylaws, and regulations.
- Report any spills or leaks immediately.
- Use personal protective equipment and clothing as required.

- No Employee shall remove or make ineffective any protective device and must report missing or damaged protective devices.
- No Employee shall use or operate any equipment, machine, or device in a manner that may endanger themself or another worker, including the operation of equipment, machine, or device without proper training or certifications where required.
- No Employee shall engage in horseplay or unsafe acts.
- Employees must immediately report any hazard(s), unsafe act/condition, near miss or incident regardless of severity to their Group Leader.
- All Employees must maintain a drug and alcohol-free workplace in compliance with the substance abuse policy.
Security and Housekeeping
- Ensure visitors and contractors follow the Contractor Management Policies / Site-specific Procedures.
- All Employees must use the designated employee entrance and exit doors. Under no circumstances can employees prop or cause to remain open any entrance or exit door that could permit entry to the facility for unauthorized individuals.
- All employees shall ensure the building is always clean and a safe workplace.
- No food or drink is permitted in the warehouse or production area, unless in a spill proof container. All other food and drink items must remain in the designated break areas.
