Shift Manager
Temporary Full Time (Approximately 6 Months)
The Shift Manager is responsible for the overall Hospital operation of program/services, providing ongoing support to front line staff after regular business hours. This includes the management of patient care activities, timely patient flow, appropriate resource allocation, and the management of Department specific and Hospital-wide clinical and non-clinical issues. This is accomplished in a way that is conducive to the growth and development of staff.
What must you have?
- Member of a Regulated Health Profession
- Three to five years’ experience in an acute care clinical leadership role.
- Baccalaureate degree or equivalent.
What to expect in the Role
- Supports and mentors staff in critical thinking and decision making through a highly visible presence throughout the facility.
- Manages conflict and facilitates its resolution in staff to staff, staff to MD, and staff to patient and/or family situations.
- Monitors patient flow by adhering to the Mackenzie Health Surge Escalation Guidelines, in order to maintain access to emergency services, and meet the hospital’s regional Support and assist s with educational initiatives to continuously educate staff on an informal basis
- Collaborates with the Manager on call, Physicians, Patient Care Managers, all care providers and support services.
- Monitors Critical care needs and follows the Critical care Surge Guidelines when required.
- Provides immediate feedback to staff in response to incidents and occurrences, and ensures communication to the appropriate Managers.
- Provides information requiring ongoing attention to the Manager, Patient Flow, Manager on-call and Administrator on-call, as appropriate.

- Rounding on all units to identify staffing concerns, acuity level concerns and provides timely resolution by collaborating with the staff and support services.
- Rounds on the units to ensure break coverage are adequate and follows hospital guidelines. Ensures units are safely staffed during break coverage. Any issues will be dealt with in timely fashion and email communication to Managers.
- Will provide consistent and timely response to front line staff in regard to clinical or supply issues.
- Collaborates with the manager and administrator on call to ensure appropriate response to internal and external events.
- Communicates are updates, changes or concerns to the Unit Managers.

Preferably, your profile also includes:
- Experience as a Registered Nurse in acute care setting
- Critical Care and/or Emergency experience.
