Position Summary
We are looking for a Project Engineering Co-op Position to join us for 8 to 12 month period, starting in May 2024.
This position will be based out of our Coaldale, Alberta.
Working with the Maintenance and engineering team, lead the development and execution of critical capital engineering projects related to plant operations and expansions using state-of-the-art technologies. This position will work with other engineers to create, develop and deploy new processes and equipment at McCain. The position will work with cross-functional teams in a matrix organization to successfully deploy projects to ensure a smooth transition ensuring that the plant is prepared for project start up and handover.
What You Will Be Working On
As Part of the Project Engineer Co-op role, you will be looking at leading engineering projects. As part of this, you will be required to:
• Help with the design and review of equipment and systems using corporate standards.
• Interface with production, maintenance, safety, quality and engineers to define project scope requirements and incorporate corporate standards.
• Collaborate with both internal and external project and resource teams to drive projects from inception to launch
• Evaluate new process technologies to improve existing systems and resolve process and safety problems.
• Work with finance, production, and safety to develop justifications for capital projects and prepare the Requests for Expenditure Authorization (REAs) in a timely and accurate fashion.
• Prepare project specifications and/or tender documents.
• Provide design input to suppliers (contractors, component suppliers, etc.).
• Produce site visit reports, contractor job meeting minutes, project material listings, purchase orders, installation schedules and preparation of any other documentation relating to installation of systems.
• Assist in the development of new installation techniques and standards.

What You Need to be Successful
• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Science in engineering (Mechanical or electrical)
• Going into their 4th or 5th year engineering (Minimum 3.0 GPA)
• Demonstrated skills in time management and managing multiple priorities.
• Ability to interpret industrial drawings as well as budget estimations for projects
• Results-oriented, team player with excellent communication skills, as well as strong problem solving abilities
• Understand sources of information and is able to obtain information effectively.
• Tact and diplomacy - ensure professionalism when dealing with internal customers and outside vendors - ability to build strong relationships.
