Junior Structural Technologist
(full-time permanent position)

GM Blue Plan Engineering Limited is seeking Project Professionals who can contribute to the continued growth within GMBP's structural team and are interested in working collaboratively with a talented team of design, management and technical leaders.

As a Junior Structural Technologist , you will join our structural team to provide transportation engineering solutions to a variety of municipal clients. This role will involve complete delivery of bridge and culvert projects including planning, assessing, designing, approvals, tendering and construction administration.
What you will do:
- Have a balanced working environment of primarily office work during winter and spring months with field work during summer and fall months
- Prepare preliminary and detailed design drawings for structural engineering projects, primarily focused on bridge and culvert projects, using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Field work including detailed topographic site surveys and visual inspections in accordance with the Ontario Structure Inspection Manual (OSIM)
- Prepare cost estimates, contract documents, engineering reports and memoranda
- Assist with construction administration duties including onsite inspection of construction activities, shop drawing reviews and progress payment certificate preparation
- Support planning staff with Municipal Class Environmental Assessment work for transportation projects
- Assist with delivery of other structural projects supporting our Land Development, Linear or Water/Wastewater design teams, as required
What you will need:
- Graduate of a civil engineering technology program or equivalent with a focus on structural or civil engineering with the goal of obtaining OACETT designation
- 0-5 years of relevant experience
- Knowledge of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CSA S6), the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario's Structural Manual, Ontario Structure Inspection Manual (OSIM), Ontario Provincial Standards and applicable legislation around bridge and culvert replacement and rehabilitation considered an asset
- Experience and aptitude to work with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Strong organizational, oral, written communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to objectively evaluate problems and opportunities and think outside the box
- Motivated to continuously learn and broaden their experience to enhance their engineering knowledge and qualifications
- Experience in construction considered an asset
- Possess a valid driver's licence
