Job Title: Assistant Banquet Manager

Location: North Toronto, Marriott Brand


Job Description:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Assistant Banqueting Manager to join our team at Marriott Brand in North Toronto. The Assistant Banqueting Manager will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient execution of events in our conference and meeting facilities. This position involves supervising and participating in serving banquet functions while upholding the highest standards of service excellence.


Responsibilities:

- Train, evaluate, lead, motivate, coach, and discipline all associates, fostering a positive team environment aligned with cultural, core, and brand standards.

- Maintain visibility in daily operations, handle guest complaints or special requests, and promote good public relations.

- Coordinate set-up requirements for hotel and off-site functions, ensuring all details are communicated effectively and executed to the highest standard.

- Ensure quality and timeliness of food service, demonstrate knowledge of wine and spirits, and uphold an elegant and attentive dining experience.

- Manage labour and operating expenses through effective scheduling, budgeting, purchasing decisions, and inventory control.

- Collaborate with other departments through regular operational meetings to ensure seamless coordination.

- Conduct regular inspections of banquet facilities and equipment, making recommendations for improvements as needed.

- Assist the Assistant F&B Manager in scheduling and supervising daily activities for outlet operations.


Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

- Post-secondary education in hotel/restaurant management or equivalent experience.

- One to two years of previous experience in an assistant manager position within banquet operations or food & beverage outlets.

- Working knowledge of division operations, acquired through on-the-job experience.

- Flexibility to work various shifts including weekends, evenings, holidays, opening, and closing shifts.

- Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.

- Exceptional time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

- Clear and effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written.

- Proven ability to deliver excellent customer service and create memorable experiences for guests.

- Previous experience in a full-service hotel or convention center preferred.

- Computer literacy with proficiency in food & beverage computer systems.

- Enthusiasm for hospitality and a desire for growth opportunities.

- Familiarity with Marriott's proprietary global event management system software, CI/TY, is an asset.

- Knowledge of hotel business accounting and cost control is advantageous.

- Experience supervising unionized personnel is a plus.
