Who We Are:
Scarborough Transit Connect (STC) has been awarded the design and early works of the Scarborough Subway Extension project. The Scarborough Subway Extension will bring the TTC’s Line 2 subway service nearly eight kilometers farther into Scarborough. It will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing quick and seamless transit for those heading into and out of the downtown core and those travelling within Scarborough. The extension will replace Line 3 (the Scarborough RT), helping to reduce travel times and improve access to jobs, schools, and other key destinations throughout the city.
As part of the Scarborough Transit Connect project, we are looking for a qualified Environmental Manager to join our team. The Environmental Manager is a key individual and has defined authority for ensuring the day-to-day implementation of Scarborough Transit Connect’s (STC) Environmental Management System (EMS) and ensuring all environmental obligations and commitments are met.
What You Will Do:
- Manage all environmental issues associated with the Project on a day-to-day basis, including overseeing the environmental monitoring and follow-up program in accordance, with the Environmental Reference Documents, Additional Environmental Reports, Applicable Law and any applicable Permits, Licenses, Approvals and Agreements.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with relevant Governmental Authorities and Stakeholders in cooperation with the Contracting Authority Representative.
- Ensure effective operation of the EMS on a day-to-day basis.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of all environmental plans and reports required under the EMS.
- Review all environmental plans and reports prior to submission to client and stakeholders.
- Chair the Environmental Working Group meetings with the client and stakeholders.
- Ensure that environmental issues are addressed, and requirements are met in accordance with the Environmental Reference Documents, Additional Environmental Reports and the Project Agreement.
- Ensure effective development, tracking and monitoring of environmental metrics in-line with best practice standards.
- Liaise with environmental specialists on environmental matters related to design and construction as required.
- Provide technical assistance and advice to Project staff related to environmental management and best practice.
- Attend or delegate attendance to weekly construction meetings to discuss and coordinate issues related to environmental management.
- Communicate environmental requirements to project staff and subcontractors through maintenance of the environmental orientation and subcontractor kick-off meetings.
- Participate in and support the scheduling and planning of internal/external environmental audits.
- Additional tasks as defined by the Environmental Director.
Experience You Will Bring:
- 10 years of work-related experience on projects of similar size, scope, and complexity to the Project.
- A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in planning, environmental planning, geography or another related discipline.
- Knowledge of the Province of Ontario’s Transit Project Assessment Process, GO Transit Class EA Document, and Environmental Assessment Act (Ontario).
- Experience in successfully managing all Environmental Aspects of transit projects in the Province of Ontario.
- Knowledge of relevant federal and provincial environmental policies, procedures and legislation.
- Experience liaising with other specialty consultants, contractors and Governmental Authorities.
- Experience with similar projects in the Province of Ontario.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities across all levels of organization.
- Knowledge of construction documentation management.
- Advanced Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) skills. Experience with various document control software.
