Terms: In-person, flexible hours, minimum 2 hours/week and a maximum 12 hours/week

Scope

Volunteers will provide support or assistance in seniors-led initiatives, events, and workshops. It is essential for all volunteers to maintain a positive attitude and uplifting interactions with seniors in the community; to learn about the needs of seniors, and to assist them where possible.

Responsibilities

• Learn and understand the agency's mission and objectives
• Assist staff in completing tasks to support seniors’ activities, such as assisting at workshops, events, trips, and with community volunteering tasks
• Engage in friendly conversations, hold doors open, move light furniture when needed, and support seniors’ programs and services (in-person, community outreach, etc.)
• Be sensitive to cultural differences
• Perform other related duties as assigned
• Interpret when needed

Qualifications

• Enthusiasm to promote programs, workshops, and events
• Effective communication within a team environment
• Demonstrates sensitivity to seniors’ needs and issues
• An interest in being involved in the community and volunteer work
• Friendly, caring, respectful, and reliable
• We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds
• Volunteers who speak a second language would be helpful in interpreting for seniors where needed

• A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check
