Our client, a great Union is looking for a highly skilled, bilingual, very professional and hard working experienced administrative professional.

Responsibilities

· Provide overall analysis on national economic, social, political, and labour issues and provide advice and recommendations on communications, research priorities, political action and campaign strategies;

· Assist in scheduling, preparing, and necessary follow-up actions regarding the work of the National President including appointments, meetings, hearings, speaking engagements;

· Accompany and provide necessary assistance to the National President at meetings, conferences, conventions etc.;


· Analyze incoming correspondence and emails and prepare draft replies or refer the matter to appropriate persons;

· Assist in the preparation of agendas and reports of the National President to meetings of the National Executive Board, National Executive Committee, President meetings, and National Convention;

· Participate in meetings and ongoing work of working groups established to address issues such as postal services, the environment, human rights, health and safety, pensions, and other public policy issues;

· Participate in the preparation of submissions, briefs, and papers on a range of issues for presentation to various labour, government, political and social movement organizations, and groups;

· Participate in a representative capacity, in meetings with coalition and social justice partners;

· Perform other tasks as requested by the National President;

· Provide assistance as required.

Qualifications
· Extensive experience working within a labour organization, or an organization devoted to the struggle for social justice;

· A thorough knowledge of the Union mandate, policies, constitution, organizational structure and governing mechanisms;

· Thorough knowledge of Union and equity principles;

· Significant experience in the labour movement and social justice;

· Significant knowledge of labour movement emerging issues at the national and international level;

· Ability to work independently and make sound-decisions;

· Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and work well in a team-oriented environment;

· Ability to coordinate information, arrangements, and correspondence with minimum review;

· Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with all levels of the organization, members, and the public;

· Ability to communicate orally and in writing in both English and French;

· Excellent judgment, and problem solving, consultative and conflict resolution skills to provide sound direction and advice on a variety of complex issues;

· Ability to demonstrate tact and discretion in preparing, disclosing and handling information of a confidential, controversial and sensitive nature;

· Ability to establish work priorities and remain flexible;

· Knowledge in communications, media relations, political action and campaign strategies;

· Strong understanding of economic, social, political and labour issues;

· Well‑developed human relations and organizational skills;

· Ability to remain calm in difficult situations.
