Job description
CLSI is now accepting applications for an Associate Scientist (level two) or Scientist (level three) position within our Bio/Life Sciences department on the BioXAS beamline - a group of three independently operating endstations.
Responsibilities:
- Training and supporting users at the beamline to ensure that they are able to perform their scientific experiments in a safe and effective manner.
- Assisting users and beamline staff in sample preparation and data processing.
- Aligning the beamline and setting up the endstation for users experiments.
- Analyzing and solving routine technical problems and developing recommendations to solve difficult, complex or unusual problems.
- Preparing beamline documentation and ensuring designs conform to CLS standards, and other relevant codes, standards and practices.
- Assisting the Beamline Responsible in the beamline upgrade/maintenance projects.
- Developing technical expertise in specific areas of beamline operation and equipment, either in hardware or software.
- Required to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to provide user support.
Qualifications:
- For the Associate Scientist level, a relevant undergraduate or Masters degree is required. For the Scientist level, a relevant Masters degree or Ph.D. in the natural sciences is required.
- A minimum of two years experience in X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy or XRF mapping with a Masters degree, or a minimum of one to two years related experience with a Ph.D. degree.
- A minimum of one year experience in supporting users at a synchrotron facility is required.
- Experience with advanced beamline instrumentation (detectors, cryostats, in-situ cells, etc.) would be considered an asset.
- Basic programming skills in Python or C/C++ are required.
