How will you create an impact:
The Lead, Credentialing and Privileging is responsible for the management of comprehensive medical staff credentialing and privileging across Interior Health (IH), as well as provides leadership and support to a team of Medical Staff Credentialers. The Lead is instrumental in ensuring optimal resource utilization and continuously improving the provision of quality credentialing and privileging processes across IH.

Reporting to the Manager, Medical Administration, Credentialing and Privileging, the Lead, Credentialing and Privileging is responsible and accountable for the planning, implementation and coordination of strategic initiatives to ensure efficient and effective processes are in place to support the function of credentialing and privileging of medical staff across IH according to provincial mandates and IH Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules. The Lead develops, fosters, and maintains strong collaborative working relationships with and among Medical Affairs, Executive Medical Directors, Medical Directors, Department Heads, IH leadership, and external partners or other interested parties.

In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, employees shall adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times and attend all required training. Employees are responsible to report any identified hazards, unsafe conditions or incidents to the manager or supervisor immediately.

What will you work on:
Within an accountability framework and a team-based environment, the key responsibilities include:
• Provides leadership and direct supervision to assigned staff using effective management techniques, e.g. coaching, mentoring, skill and leadership development, and performance management.

• Identifies risks and mitigation strategies relating to Credentialing and Privileging processes to ensure the appropriate initial qualification criteria and review processes are met for Medical Staff providing services within IH facilities, and in order to achieve provincial and Board requirements.

• Ensures that the quality and integrity of medical staff information is maintained by developing audit and performance reports for the ongoing monitoring and reporting of efficiency, performance, and data quality.

• Maintains current and expert knowledge of Credentialing and Privileging processes and procedures, documents procedures, and creates information system user guidelines and training materials. Provides training to medical staff and medical leaders as required.

• Creates data reports as requested by various IH departments, other provincial partners, and the Ministry of Health. Maintains current and expert knowledge of the intricacies of the credentialing and privileging software and how to extract accurate information, based on the data request.

• Identifies, recommends, and implements system and process enhancements ensuring all provincially legislated and Board established standards and criteria are met.

• Represents IH on provincial committees and leads project coordination and management of initiatives identified through the BC Medical Quality Initiative (BC MQI) mandate.

• Participates in BC MQI meetings and working group sessions at an operational level; foster partnerships with BC MQI and other provincial health authorities to develop and implement standardized credentialing, privileging and compliance processes to improve integration across the health system.

• Liaises with Executive Medical Directors, Chiefs of Staff, Department Heads, Program and Site Medical Directors, Medical Administrative Assistants, and medical staff on various aspects of credentialing and privileging. Advises medical staff and leadership of upcoming changes that may affect medical staff and health authority processes.

• Builds and maintains relationships with the College of Physicians and Surgeons, BC College of Nurses and Midwives, the BC College of Oral Health Professionals, and the respective insurance coverage providers with respect to licensure and coverage for their respective members.

• Conducts strategic financial analysis in the development and management of the Credentialing and Privileging annual operating budget; conducts ongoing monitoring activities of the overall budget; reviews and assesses ongoing staffing requirements.

• Co-chair the Credentialing & Privileging Subcommittee of HAMAC with the Senior Medical Director, Credentialing & Privileging.

Qualfications
Education, Training and Experience
• A Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration or equivalent experience.
• Five to seven years of recent, related experience including working with physicians, health care providers and staff, including experience with and understanding of the complexity of the healthcare system and of the operations of the Health Authority. Previous experience working in health care programs an asset.
• Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills and Abilities
• Experience working with physicians, health care providers and support staff.
• Excellent judgment in setting priorities, identifying issues and determining action required when working under pressure and deadlines.
• Experience in implementing change management strategies an asset.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Ability to perform multiple tasks, balance priorities, and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of the team.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
