Sessional Instructor(s), Spring/Summer 2024, B.Arts/B.Ed Integrated Program – PENT

PENT is seeking qualified, sessional instructors to teach the following online, synchronous, three credit hour courses during the Spring/Summer of 2024.  The instructors will be responsible for content delivery with expectations consistent with offerings of this course within the appropriate department.  Qualified candidates must possess strong teaching, communication and organizational skills, and demonstrate evidence of teaching effectiveness.

15.153 Medicinal Plants  –  Monday to Thursday – April 29 – May 23 –  1:30 – 4:00 PM

Plants with medicinal properties will be described and details given for identification, distribution, cultivation, active constituents, and preparation. Plants will be organized by body systems affected. A selection of representative plants globally will be combined with an emphasis on species found in our region. Plants that are poisonous if ingested or that cause irritation on contact will be outlined, as well as stimulants and narcotics.

54.279 History of Native Peoples in Canada  –  Monday to Thursday – April 1 -25  –   9:00 – 11:30 AM

A history of Canadian Native peoples from European contact to the present time, examining Native society as it existed in pre-contact times, and as it continued on its own terms through the development of the fur trade, governmental Native policies, the development of the Dept. of Indian Affairs and the Indian Act, and the resurgence of Native identity and political activity since World War II.

74.184 Solar System Astronomy – Monday to Thursday – May 27 – June 20 – 1:30 – 4:00 PM

A non-mathematical general survey of the history of astronomy and the components of our solar system. The course will deal with the sun, moon, planets, meteors and comets. Many examples of the photographic results and other data from the latest space probes are included and several visits to the observatory will be arranged. While this is a general course, the content is particularly appropriate for those who are considering teaching as a career.

Qualifications: Applicants should hold a minimum of a Master’s degree in an area related to the topic of instruction.

Salary:    $6314/3 credit hour course
