JUNIOR BACKYARD BONANZA LEADER

Hours of Work: 36 hours per week, Monday – Friday 8:45 AM – 4:15 PM

PURPOSE AND SCOPE As a member of the Community Services Department, this staff person will provide safe supervision, organize, and implement games and activities for children, allowing the participants to express themselves in both the pool and on land through games, craft activities and water sports.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Responsible for the safety and supervision of the participants and ensure the rules and regulations set out by the Department and/or outside organizations, are followed.
- Assist with the development, implementation, supervision and evaluation the daily activities to ensure a successful program.
- Assist with the proper handling and care of the equipment, supplies and facilities utilized, reporting damages or losses to the Program Supervisor.
- Assist with the daily maintenance and cleanliness of the facility where the program is held.
- Assist with the completion and submission of the required administrative forms on a weekly basis (ie. accident forms, supply requests, special event forms, etc.).
- Staff will be required to participate in daily activities with the campers (including swimming).
- Evaluate the overall success of the program and submit reports and recommendations.
- Prepare and implement bi-weekly evening performances for the campers to present to their families.
- Attend all scheduled staff meetings when required.
- Attend Summer Staff Training.
Note: Above duties are representative of a typical position and are not to be construed as all-inclusive. KEY QUALIFICATIONS: - Minimum of one (1) to two (2) years/seasons previous experience as a camp leader and/or children's recreation leader in a supervisory position required.
- Standard First Aid & CPR ‘C’.
- High Five Principals of Healthy Child Development.
- Child/youth related field of study considered an asset.
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary school child-related, recreation, social work, or related field of study is an asset.
- Previous experience working with children.
- Experience leading children's activities like crafts, games, music, sports.
- ‘G’ License and access to a vehicle is an asset.
