Storekeeper
Primary Purpose: Assists in providing support and exceptional customer service within Materials Management at the Veterinary Medical Centre. The Storekeeper (Stores) assists in the smooth delivery of materials and supplies required by clinicians and staff as well as related inventory management duties and operations of the warehouse, outside storage compound and other associated areas.
Nature of Work: Reporting to the Manager of Pharmacy, Inventory, and Purchasing this position works closely with other Storekeepers and works within established customer service guidelines and expectations of the unit. This position works independently with minimal supervision to handle a high volume of work and at times will be under pressure to meet deadlines. The position also works collaboratively with fellow employees and with other support staff. This position works in an animal facility with small animals (canine, feline, avian, and some exotics) and large animals (bovine, equine, caprine, porcine, ovine and some exotics) which exposes employees to the unpredictability of animals, dander, and waste. It requires a substantial amount of lifting, moving, and cleaning of equipment/work area and is subject to dress code, traffic pattern restrictions and compliance with biosecurity policies.
Accountabilities
- Shipping/receiving, shelving, issuing and delivering materials and supplies
- Maintaining inventory control records via computer entry
- Assists in conducting ongoing inventory checks, reconciles checks with inventory system counts, and determines the root cause for discrepancies, making appropriate corrections as required
- Participating in the annual physical inventory count
- Assists in reviewing inventory levels, making recommendations for changes to stock levels, suggestions for new items, setting reorder points, and the removal of items no longer required
- Assists in making local pickups and deliveries or other related duties as required
Qualifications
Education: Completion of Grade 12.
Experience: Two to three years of experience working in inventory management, supply and delivery.

- Ability to work independently and as a team member with limited supervision;
- Physical ability to perform rigorous manual labour tasks that regularly involves heavy lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, kneeling, and prolonged standing and/or sitting;
- Working knowledge of W.H.M.I.S. and transportation of dangerous goods protocol.
