Position Overview The City of North Vancouver is the urban core of the beautiful North Shore and has a long-term vision to be “The Healthiest Small City in the World”, with five key priorities to be a City for People, a Resilient City, a Vibrant City, a Connected City and a Prosperous City The Police Support Services Department requires a regular full-time Community Police Office Coordinator to work in the Community Policing Unit out of the RCMP Detachment
Responsibilities As a key contact for the Community Policing Office, you will work as part of a team to market, coordinate and administer a broad range of community-based crime prevention programs and community policing initiatives within the City of North Vancouver. You will recruit interview, select, train, schedule and co-ordinate volunteers; organize volunteer and community events; monitor the Office’s budget; provide clerical and administrative support to the RCMP officers associated with the Office; and provide assistance to the public, including processing Police Information Checks, maintaining files and reviewing complaints taken by volunteers. You will organize and implement community based crime prevention events and liaise with various community services agencies, government bodies and RCMP members
Requirements As an ideal candidate, you have experience working with volunteers, have great communication skills, and can motivate and inspire. In addition, you should be comfortable with developing and delivering presentations to a variety of stakeholder groups within the community. You have excellent computer skills along with the ability to keyboard at a net speed of 40 words per minute. You have a keen eye for detail and the ability to complete assignments with speed and accuracy. Your style is courteous and tactful when dealing with the public. Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by commercial courses and related experience, preferably in a law enforcement environment, along with supervisory experience are required. Experience in volunteer management and Microsoft Office are also required, along with the ability to monitor budgets. In addition you must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
Compensation $33.25 to $39.14 per hour (Pay Grade 18 – January 2024 rates)
Hours of Work Any seven (7) consecutive hours, exclusive of an unpaid one-hour meal break, between the hours of 7:00am and 11:00pm, any five (5) consecutive days of seven. The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule, with one scheduled day off each three-week scheduling cycle. Flexible hours, including evenings and weekends will be required from time to time to support community events
Additional Information You will be required to obtain and maintain an RCMP security clearance as a condition of ongoing employment Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete standardized tests or exercises to demonstrate their applicable skills and knowledge
