Come Join the RR Power team! We are continually growing our team in order to keep servicing our existing and new clients. RR Power Consulting Inc. is an engineering consultant focused on electrical power transmission, distribution and generation within the utility and private industry.
We are currently looking for an Electrical Solar Engineer/Technologist interested in a variety of different projects, while mainly focusing on helping execute and grow our team working on Utility Scale Solar Generation projects.
Position
We are looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer or Electrical Technologist with 4+ years of experience working in a design engineering role on industrial, utility, or electrical power projects. You will be responsible for working with the existing team on design and engineering related to projects, provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineering staff, and collaborate with the rest of the team on projects and work to develop new processes and approaches to improve efficiency and quality of everyone’s work.
You will see projects through from conceptual stage through to construction and coordinate with clients, customers, contractors, manufacturers, and suppliers to deliver practical and constructable designs.
Job Responsibilities
The list of responsibilities below provides a general overview of project-based activities:
- Provide conceptual and preliminary designs for solar generation projects, including initial sizing, equipment selection and overall project site layout.
- Perform PV generation simulation calculations using PVSYST software.
- Work with developers of renewable generation projects in order to support feasibility and permitting stages of the projects.
- Provide detailed designs for overhead and underground low and medium voltage cabling, power cable installation, PV module arrays, electrical equipment installations and auxiliary systems such as communications, security and weather station systems.
- Perform calculations for power systems including load low, short circuit, protective device selection and coordination, and cable ampacity as required by the utilities having jurisdiction and project requirements.
- Prepare installation drawings in AutoCAD including site plans, electrical schematics, and detailed installation drawings.
- Oversee junior staff to prepare overall construction drawings packages.
- Coordinate with client and other engineering disciplines and subconsultants to ensure designs are properly coordinated between scopes. Participate in overall project coordination and QAQC activities.
- Provide construction support including providing clarifications and changes due to field conditions. On-site construction support will be required on an as-needed basis, generally at regular intervals and at project completion.
- Assist with project close-out including review of testing and commissioning documentation.
- Working with the RR Power team on various other non-solar projects is expected in order to cross-train individuals.
- Continued professional development through participation in internal and external learning opportunities.
Key Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant design and engineering experience.
- Licensed Professional Engineer, in good standing with the P.E.O or Engineering Technology diploma, Engineering Degree, or equivalent.
- Detail and quality-oriented approach.
- Must work well both individually and in team environment.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or MicroStation and drafting practices is an asset.
- Previous experience working with utility scale solar or renewable generation is an asset.
- Experience conducting electrical power system studies including load flow / power flow, short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash, grounding safety analysis, harmonics assessment is an asset.
- Experience selecting and designing protection and control systems is an asset.
- Previous experience with power system modelling in ETAP, SKM, CYME, CDEGS, etc.. is considered an asset.
