Our client is looking for an experienced, motivated, and team-oriented person to join our Ecology team as a Senior Terrestrial Ecologist. Ideal candidates will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and problem-solving abilities and demonstrate the capacity to effectively manage internal and external relationships.

 

This is a role for someone seeking a position within a diverse, dynamic, employee-owned business that offers progressive responsibility and growth.

 

Your experience you bring will include:

• 7+ years’ experience in terrestrial ecology

• Research skills, data management, analysis and report writing skills

• Willingness to work in the field, including remote locations for days/weeks at a time and outside of standard office hours, as required

• A valid G license and access to a vehicle to travel to and from sites (mileage to sites compensated), including valid and appropriate vehicle insurance

• Comfortable interacting with the public, clients, contractors, and co-workers

• Ability to progress towards working independently with minimal supervision

• Certification in Ontario Wetland Evaluation System (OWES), First Aid, and ATV and Pleasure Craft operators training considered an asset

 

Your responsibilities will include:

• Complete field sampling protocols, inventory and assess terrestrial ecosystems • Undertake field investigations, including, but not limited to: o Ecological Land Classification (ELC)

o Wildlife surveys (amphibians, birds, mammals, reptiles) o Targeted Species at Risk (SAR) habitat assessments, screening, and documentation

• Undertake background information searches including literature reviews, database review, and agency consultation Write technical reports (Environmental Assessments, Environmental Impact Studies, Species at Risk Surveys, etc.)

• Understand and apply existing policy and criteria to projects including making recommendations for best practice and industry standard mitigation measures

• Complete permitting requirements and assist with provincial and federal permitting as required

• Any other functions assigned as part of your employment

Required Skills/Experience

• 7+ years’ experience in Terrestrial Ecology

• Degree or diploma in Biology, Ecology, Environmental studies, or similar field with a working knowledge of terrestrial ecology and species in Ontario

• Research Skills, Data Management, Analysis and Report Writing skills

• Willingness to work in the field, including remote locations for days/weeks at a time and outside of standard office hours, as required

• A valid G license and access to a vehicle to travel to and from sites (mileage to sites compensated), including valid and appropriate vehicle insurance
