Job Description

Rainbow’s End is a Hamilton based charity that manages a series of social enterprises that include a well established property maintenance service, Mow-Town. We are searching for a motivated person for Mow-Town; The individual will lead the landscaping team(s) and have a range of general landscaping experience.

The foreperson is the team lead in all senses. They will head-up all summer and winter work teams, undertaking residential cutting, trimming and a broad range of garden maintenance work, plus snow clearing in the winter. We offer a competitive wage and reasonable work hours (7.5 hour days, starting 7:30/8:0 am). The work is all local, avoiding a long commute.

Physically capable, the foreperson will plan and schedule the work for the teams.  The role requires an enthusiastic attitude and is suitable for a young (..or young at heart) individual who likes outdoor work and a diversity of challenges. They will be supported by the Executive Director.

The foreperson  will interact extensively with customers, providing simple job quotes, and working on larger project proposals with the Executive Director. Good communication and the ability to use a computer or i-Pad would be very advantageous.

The initial contract is negotiable in length up to 12 months, and it is anticipated that the successful candidate will grow and improve the performance of the property services leading to a renewed contract.

Rainbow’s End is a very positive, collaborative and supportive environment that has the employment of people living with mental health challenges, and the Executive Director will provide oversight and guidance to the supervisor when required.

Requirements & Prerequisites

Qualifications/ Skills Required: The applicant should be an enthusiastic supporter of social enterprises and a “cause crusader” for support of mental health recovery. They  will need:

We require the candidate to demonstrate patience and empathy for working with crews who have a range of different levels of experience and skills.

A computer is provided and access to an i-Pad for planning and photographing jobs is provided. Knowledge of some software (MS Office, Google Suites, Adobe etc.) will be required.

It would be advantageous for the  leader to have an awareness of plants/planting and weed control management.

Certifications: Certification in any area relating to teaching or mentoring and landscaping would be an advantage but not essential. 

Work Experience: Any candidate with experience of home landscaping along with good team-working and training skills would be considered for this role.  Multiple years of work in landscaping or in a teaching / training position would be a good background.

A good attitude to working hard and to work enthusiastically to help build employment opportunities for people with lived experience of mental illness is the most significant part of this role.

A background check will be required and good references will be needed.
