Job description
The Day Camp Leader is responsible for coordinating, conducting, and supervising all day camp activities while assisting the leadership and direction of day camp staff. The Day Camp Leader will provide a safe, fun, caring environment while the children are participating in a variety of activities, making new friends, and learning about the Christian faith.
This is a temporary position based on 35 hours per week. Flexibility in scheduling is required. Term is up to 17 weeks.
This position is funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
- Is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of the employment.
- Is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*: and,
- Is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.
- *International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are a Canadian Citizen or a permanent resident.
Program Leadership:
- Provide direct leadership of daily camp operations and assist with various camp activities including Bible lessons, arts & crafts, music, sports and games.
- Oversee engagement of volunteers and their activities.
- Observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, and address issues, where possible
- Chaperone children on field trips
- Create and implement a 7-week Day Camp program for children aged 6-11; overseeing day-to-day operations of the camp
- Supervise scheduled activities
- Work cooperatively with the camp staff, church staff and families of those children attending day camp.
- Attend all staff training/orientation and meetings
Health and Safety:
- Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities.
- Ensure the health and safety of all children
- Be aware of all safety protocol and government regulations and ensure that the camp falls in line with these requirements. This includes Covid-19 protocols and procedures as well as Online Safety regulations for The Salvation Army.
Program administration:
- Lead the development and implementation of camp activities, coordinating the schedule
- Assists with promoting the camp and receiving registrations.
- Works with the camp counsellors in planning, and implementing camp
- Responsible for daily camp logistics
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
- Collect and record camp fees from parents
- Develop shopping list of supplies required, remaining within program budget
Perform other duties as required.
