The Director, Clinical Informatics will provide leadership to advance and optimize Mackenzie Health’s utilization of clinical information systems consistent with the goals and objectives of the organization’s clinical and strategic initiatives. As an integral member of the digital health leadership team, the Director will contribute to digital advancement in support of Mackenzie Health’s goals for safe and high-quality health services and improved quality outcomes for patients.

 

In partnership with the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO), Director, Professional Practice & Chief Nursing Informatics Officers (CNIO) and digital health management team, the Director, Clinical Informatics advises on strategies for development & design, implementation, benefits, change management & adoption, and utilization & evaluation of informatics solutions such as electronic medical records, health information exchanges, virtual health and other communication and information systems used in the clinical settings across the care continuum. This role ensures that strategies align with organization’s strategic and clinical objectives, that clinical needs are translated into technology solutions that optimize care quality and patient safety, and that innovation and development of a clinically appropriate information culture is championed.

 

Contribute to Mackenzie Health by:

 

• Provides strategic leadership and departmental oversight to ensure that clinical applications and health information technology support safe and effective patient care
• Plans and manages the integration of clinical information technology systems and ensures the departments framework and practices are harmonized to maintain continuity of information technology services and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices
• Utilizes an innovative, creative and forward-thinking approach to ensure strong leadership for the department when participating in relevant strategic planning, innovation and other related initiatives with an informatics, information management and clinical practice focus
• Works proactively with departmental leaders, professional practice, clinicians, staff and senior management to identify clinical needs and workflows, as well as develop practical solutions to ensure alignment with department workflows and hospital policies and standards
• Works with leadership and governance to assess and prioritize requests for clinical application improvements/redesign and determine feasibility and effectiveness of system changes
• Acts as a change agent to promote adoption of new processes and technologies through effective communication of expected benefits and improvements to be achieved
• Provides strategic and operational leadership on health care informatics trends, opportunities and risks and make recommendations for improvements to enhance the efficient delivery of patient care
• Establishes and maintains performance metrics and quality indicators to monitor the effectiveness and impact of informatics initiatives and drive continuous improvement efforts
• Co-leads or participates in relevant committees or groups

 

What must you have?

 

• Master’s degree in Health Informatics, Health Administration, Business Administration or equivalent
• Diploma or degree in a regulated healthcare profession, an asset
• Formal training and/or experience in Project Management, an asset
• Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience within the health care sector with proven effectiveness in leading clinical change enabled through technology

 

What else do you bring?

 

• Experience using healthcare applications and technologies, strong knowledge of EHR systems, clinical workflows, and healthcare information technology standards and regulations
• Familiarity with interoperability standards (FHIR, HL7, DICOM etc.)
• Demonstrated ability in relationship building and change leadership to achieve co-operation, collaboration and consensus among diverse stakeholders including physicians, nurses, other regulated health professionals and IT
• Ability to work independently and problem solve in a proactive manner demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in changing work environments
• Demonstrated ability to create and execute plans ensuring timelines are met while working with a variety of stakeholders
• Experience in implementing clinical applications with a strong understanding of infrastructure compatibility and systems integration
• Superior financial and statistical management abilities; including the ability to assess, interpret and project budgetary needs
• Exceptional communication skills both verbal and written
• Ability to perform the essential duties of the job
• Effectively uses empathy in interactions with others
