The Responsible Mining and Competitiveness Division (RMCD) manages and facilitates the responsible development of BC’s mineral resources. RMCD’s main focuses are: ensuring safe and environmentally responsible mineral exploration, mine development and closure; providing timely permitting decisions; promoting BC’s many mineral opportunities and fostering a positive and supportive environment for staff; implementing the Premier’s Jobs Plan commitments and contributing to the achievement of the Province’s social, economic and environmental goals.
The Inspector of Mines - Permitting positions are found in each of the five regional offices in Victoria (SW), Prince George, Kamloops, Cranbrook and Smithers. These positions are responsible for the review and issuance of permits and authorizations for all exploration and small mines in the region under the authority of the Mines Act. In this role, you inspect mines to monitor compliance of mining and reclamation activity, manage consultation processes with other agencies, assess environmental risk, and set reclamation bonds.
The successful candidate has the ability to draw conclusions on complex technical issues, using advanced analytical reasoning and judgement skills. You have strong written and oral communication skills, exercising professionalism, tact and diplomacy to industry clients, external agencies and management. In addition, you possess the ability to effectively liaise with other industry clients, government agencies, First Nations, the public and diverse public interest groups.
