Your Opportunity
The Waterfront Lifeguard Lead is responsible for providing site guidance to the lifeguard team and maintaining control of the activities within waterfront and beach area to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for guests and staff.
The primary responsibilities of this position include:
- Ensure a safe and enjoyable waterfront environment for guests and staff through supervision, accident prevention, first aid, rescue skills, public education, and public relations
- Identify and address risks along the waterfront and beach area to keep guests safe
- Participate in pre-season beach setup, including installing and maintaining buoy lines, and other rescue equipment
- Coordinate and deliver pre-season and in-season Waterfront Lifeguard team training
- Provide daily work assignments, staff rotations, and coordination of resources for the Waterfront Lifeguard team
- Responsible for scheduling shifts for the Waterfront Lifeguard team throughout the season
- Record shift details daily in the Beach Setup and Supervisory Log
- Support staff with the understanding and compliance of health & safety policies and other related CH policies and procedures
- Oversee incident reporting ensuring completeness and accuracy
- Provide customer service and engage with guests to provide education about potential hazards and safe practices in waterfront areas
- Support Open-Water swim events by scheduling Lifeguards and other resources as required
- Work in accordance with the Conservation Halton’s Safety Policies & Procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all other related manuals
- Other duties as assigned
Your Qualifications
- Must be 16 years of age or older at the time of employment
- Certified and experienced NLS Waterfront Lifeguard *Successful candidates must provide a copy of certification
- Effective communication skills, combined with the ability and willingness to enforce policies and procedures in a professional manner
- Ability to prioritize and take action on the needs of both staff and guests
- Previous supervisory experience is an asset, ability to provide direction and oversight to staff team
- Ability to manage conflict and utilize de-escalation skills to resolve conflict situations
- Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions
- Able to lift up to 40 pounds, stand, and walk for long periods of time
- Successful candidates are required to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSS), to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted (if over 18 years old). *Cost covered by Conservation Halton up to $30.00
- Must be flexible to work all scheduled shifts, including weekends and holidays
- Lifesaving Swim Instructor Certification is an asset
- Pleasure Craft Operator Certification is an asset
