The Department of Public Works supports Nova Scotia’s 23,000 kilometers of roads and highways, and 4,100 bridges. Our Structural Engineering Division is growing, and we have an opportunity available for a Bridge Engineer to join to our team. About Our Opportunity

 

Reporting to the Manager of Structural Engineering, the Bridge Engineer provides specialized structural and bridge engineering services respecting the design, tendering, construction, and inspection of bridges and other highway structures.

Qualifications and Experience

 

You have a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution and are registered with Engineers Nova Scotia (ENS) as an Engineer-in-Training, or as Licensed to Practice.

 

Be able to manage multiple priorities, have excellent organizational skills, be a quick learner and demonstrate sound decision-making skills. You are a self-motivated individual who works well independently with minimal supervision.

 

You have a proven and professional communication skills both verbal and written communication skills for dealing with department personnel, other government agencies, consultants, contractors and public.

 

You have well developed planning and organizational skills, coupled with the ability to multi-task and adapt in this fast- paced environment with competing priorities.

 

Must have experience with structural steel, reinforced concrete and timber structural design, codes, and handbooks. You must have experience using structural/bridge software, AutoCAD, Microsoft office software suites are essential.

 

The candidate demonstrated experience in leading and coordinating project teams as well as experience in public speaking and/or giving formal presentations is a definite asset.

 

A working knowledge of structural design and analysis with experience and understanding of Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code, Department Standard Specifications, policies and procedures, the Public Highway Act, the Motor Vehicle Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the associated regulations is considered an asset.

 

Experience and knowledge of project management techniques, consultant procurement practices and agreements, tendering processes, advanced highway structure design computer applications is considered an asset.

 

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Working Conditions

 

A majority of your time will be spent in an office environment, but site visits will be required during all seasons and various weather conditions on heavily-travelled roads or in rough, isolated areas of construction sites.

Additional Information

 

An Engineer must be “Licensed to Practice” as determined by Engineers of Nova Scotia (ENS) before being classified as an Engineer 3.

What We Offer

 

 

 

Pay Grade:PR 08 - PR 15  

Salary Range:  $2,074.62 - $3,348.16 Bi-Weekly
