DUTIES

The Mechanic, Landscaping & Grounds provides technical support to the Grounds and Mobile Training Lab (MLT) team to ensure that all heavy and light equipment for both departments are well maintained by inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing the equipment in a timely manner. This position will perform maintenance and repairs on all the MTL’s (Mobile Training Labs) and deploys to regional Campuses to assist the Coordinator in the setups and trouble calls.

The Mechanic, Landscaping & Grounds is responsible for operating and maintaining a variety of power, and shop tools. Assists Supervisor, Landscaping & Grounds in coordinating with contractors to quote and repair College equipment requiring extensive repair and source replacement and maintain inventory of stock parts.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma (or equivalency) and a Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Technician certificate. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

• Class 1 license with experience in operating related equipment.

• Thorough knowledge in heavy equipment maintenance and repair experience and outstanding mechanical aptitude.

• Thorough knowledge and experience inspecting, troubleshooting, and diagnosing heavy snow clearing and landscaping equipment issues.

• Thorough knowledge and experience performing maintenance, preventative maintenance, and (minor) repairs to heavy snow clearing and landscaping equipment.

• Thorough knowledge and experience troubleshooting and repairing heavy equipment systems.

• Detailed understanding in operating heavy trucks and air brake endorsed equipment for snow clearing.

• Thorough knowledge and experience in diagnostic equipment and computer diagnostic equipment.

• Detailed understanding in interpreting equipment manufacturer's drawings and instruction manuals

• Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, to explain equipment diagnoses, provide information and discuss action plans with management, colleagues, and manufacturer.

• Detailed understanding in sourcing replacement and maintenance stock parts as required.

• Detailed understanding in dealing with vendors and contractors, quoting pieces of equipment and repairs all departmental equipment that requires extensive repair.

• Demonstrated computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Internet literacy to check on replacement pieces, verify prices and quotes and research on equipment, parts, and alternative options.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team within a shop and field environment

• Able to work under minimal supervision effectively and efficiently when repairing and maintaining equipment

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and demonstrate a positive work environment with various College departments

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

• This position may be required to work evenings and/or weekends

• This position requires working outdoors under inclement weather for extended periods for snow clearing, ice cracking and hand shoveling tasks.

• This position may require travel to look after MTLs located in Regional Campuses.

• Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in an alternating, physically demanding position

Salary: $61,235 - $83,865 per annum
