A.J. Forsyth is currently looking for a Buyer within our BC Region. The successful candidate may work out of the Delta, Nanaimo, or Prince George branch. This is a full-time, permanent role, Monday - Friday (8:00 am - 4:30 pm); 40 hours/week.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage the inventory levels by product to satisfy future sales requirements while maintaining effective asset control.
• To be responsible for the complete and accurate preparation of all documentation pertaining to the purchase and/or revisions of inventory requirements.
• Monitor and participate in the coordination of inventory requirements for specific contract accounts that have committed stocking programs with our branch.
• Familiar with procedures of importing/exporting products with correct tariffs, shipping manifests, duty drawback forms and exchange rates.
• Work closely with Managers to advise of changing market/supply situations and impending problems which may occur with incoming materials.
• Be familiar with all relevant suppliers, their product ranges and capabilities while exploring opportunities with new suppliers for products and services.
• Coordinate, negotiate and issue proper documentation to satisfactorily settle any claims.
• Coordinate and negotiate incoming traffic requirements with reputable carriers at competitive rates.
• Identify and communicate slow moving items to prevent sludge.
• Participate in and support corporate purchasing programs.
• Update computer systems of suppliers’ lead times, pricing and inventory classifications.

Preferable:

• Post-Secondary education in the field of Metallurgy and/or Business Administration.
• Possess or working towards (C.P.P.) Certified Professional Purchaser Accreditation.
• Previous purchasing experience within the Steel Service Center Industry would be an asset.
