Job description
Our client in Calgary, AB is a leading global compliance company that provides innovative solutions for customers in various markets. They are looking for a Permanent Machinist to work in the Operations Department who will be responsible for operating and inspect various machines and parts.
Responsibilities:
- Use mathematical principles and precision tools like micrometers and vernier calipers to calculate dimensions and tolerances accurately.
- Operate machinery including lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders to craft parts according to specified requirements.
- Inspect, assess, and test finished units to identify any flaws and ensure they meet the required standards, utilizing precision instruments such as micrometers.
- Setup, fine-tune, and utilize a variety of basic and specialized machine tools to carry out precise machining tasks effectively.
- Monitor the speed and feed of machines throughout the machining process.
- Analyze sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering data to determine the most suitable methods and sequences for manufacturing products, while also determining product dimensions and tolerances.
- Choose the appropriate tools, machinery, and materials for preparing machinery work.
- Maintain industrial machines, drawing on knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures to ensure smooth operation.
- Prepare samples in compliance with CSA, ASTM, and ASME standards, as well as meeting customer requirements.
- Collaborate with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing staff to exchange technical knowledge and information.
- Responsible for completing safety evaluations, reporting near misses, and identifying hazards as necessary.
About you: - 3 or more years of experience in a similar role is a must
- Third to fourth the year apprentice or certified journeyperson, holding a valid recognized credential
- Certification: Working toward Interprovincial Standards Red Seal
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Knowledge in math (arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics) and its practical applications.
- Ability to work independently with focus and physical effort. Basic computer skills. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
- Proven experience in managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Collaborative and independent work capabilities.
- Proficient in reading and following instructions. Familiarity with common computer software. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Good time management and attention to detail.
- Able to handle pressure and work extended hours or shifts when needed. Occasional travel may be required. Adherence to health & safety, integrity, and professional conduct policies.
*Note: This job can be physical and demanding as it requires 80% Manual and 20% CNC. Manual Equipment - Lathe Machine, Vertical Milling, Horizontal Milling, Surface Grinder, Brand Saw & Hand Tools/Preparation / CNC – HAAS Mini Mill Perks: - Salary: $35-$40/h
