What can I expect to do in this role?

Support a dynamic, fast-paced and innovative team in the development and interpretation of ministry policies related to conservation authorities, natural hazards, natural heritage, aggregates and oil/gas and salt resources. This role includes providing technical, analytical and administrative support to the development of Resources Planning and Development Policy Branch policies, regulations, procedures and programs.

How do I qualify?

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Policy development/resource management knowledge:
• knowledge of policy research and analysis techniques, environmental scanning, modelling and trends forecasting, including utilizing databases and websites to gather, summarize and interpret information
• knowledge of policy development processes and Indigenous and public consultation and engagement approaches
• knowledge of data and information analysis techniques and computer-based analytical, data management and modeling techniques to research, compile and analyze data; prepare reports and related materials and recommend effective courses of action

Computer/Information management skills:
• knowledge of personal computers including Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and communication software such as MS Teams
• demonstrated ability to use computer software including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, and database packages

Research, analysis and critical thinking skills:
• well-developed research and analytical skills to conduct research, analyze, assess and report on complex and diverse issues with attention to detail
• information management skills and computer skills to conduct research and maintain electronic information systems to prepare reports

Interpersonal and communication skills:
• strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills to assistant in the interpretation and preparation of technical reports, presentations, briefing notes and communications materials
• professionalism, judgement, demonstrated ability to work in teams, and address contentious issues with a variety of internal and external stakeholders

Organization/Project management skills:
• strong organizational and time management skills to undertake and balance multiple tasks and shifting timelines
• ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and with clients and partners

Additional Information:

Successful candidates may be required to undergo an employment screening check in accordance with the Ontario Employment Screening Checks Policy.

Eligibility:

• proof of eligibility to work in Canada
• graduated or will graduate from an approved or legally authorized college or university with a degree, postgraduate certificate or diploma within the last four years
• candidates are only eligible to participate in one MNRF 12-month placement and must not have participated in the MNRF internship program in the past
• not a permanent employee in the OPS
