Job Summary:
The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Regulated Pharmacy Technicians in the pharmacy and coordinating the workflow of the supportive functions involving quality and technical checks of the dispensed products and ensuring accurate and timely presentation of drug products in packaging. The Supervisor supports the activities of the shared services group of the pharmacy, including priority setting and review, issue escalation, resolution and follow up to provide a seamless workflow throughout pharmacy. The incumbent will provide metric based updates to the Sr. Manager at regular intervals to ensure proper performance, monitoring, escalation, staff orientation, training new staff and monthly check ins on performance. The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor role will serve as back-ups for other Supervisors as required.
Section A – Specific Responsibilities:
Managing direct reports, namely Pharmacy Technicians.
Overseeing recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and training of new employees.
Promoting ongoing team development through coaching and conducting quarterly performance evaluations.
Managing the departmental budget, analyzing volumes and direct costs, and making necessary adjustments to meet established goals.
Meeting or exceeding metrics and deadlines set by program Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
Managing external and internal service compliance, identifying risk and compliance opportunities, and assisting in assessing and mitigating identified risks while being accountable to corporate risk and other compliance functions.
Conducting root cause and trend analysis and developing process improvements.
Collaborating with the team to implement creative solutions to daily workflow challenges and temporary labour shortages.
Developing and maintaining a team with a strong focus on customer service and continuous quality improvements.
Maintaining program Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), exceptions processes, workflows, scripting, training, and reports.
Ensuring compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations.
Participating in Program Quarterly Business Reviews.
Competently performing the duties required of the pharmacy technician team.
Developing working relationships and motivating staff for growth and success.
Demonstrating a thorough understanding of policies, procedures, SOPs and ensuring staff compliance.
Being open to performing tasks beyond the specific responsibilities of a supervisor and adapting, as necessary.
Providing regular feedback to the Manager regarding quality, operational, technical, or process issues and recommending corrective actions or engaging additional resources if needed.
Overseeing employee scheduling and resource allocation based on forecasted demand to ensure effective and efficient departmental service levels.
Supporting the Sr. Manager in policy and practice development, responding in accordance with policy direction, and seeking assistance for unusual situations or staff non-compliance.
Conducting daily briefings on pharmacy operations with the Manager, addressing attendance, staff non-adherence, and resource allocation as required.
Ability to perform tasks beyond the specific responsibilities of a Pharmacist Supervisor and adapting, as necessary.
Section B – Key Requirements:
Knowledge:
Applicants must have a Diploma from a reputable Health College or equivalent.
A valid Registered Pharmacy Technician license in good standing with the applicable College of Pharmacists.
Possess strong working knowledge of Kroll software and its capabilities.
Skills and Abilities:
Exercises sound knowledge and good judgment.
Strong problem solving and decision making skills with the ability to effectively handle multiple priorities in a changing environment.
Management of Key Performance Metrics.
Proficiency in coaching and developing teams.
Ability to analyze operational data and recommend strategies.
Experiences:
3+ years of experience in pharmacy with a focus on prescription processing and leadership experience.
3-5 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
Demonstrated cross-training in multiple operational functions.
Experience in a high-volume processing centre.
Experience in program implementation, maintenance, and restructuring.
