Short Grass Ranches is a 70 year old family owned and operated business. As the operation evolves, we need an additional team member to join us in the challenging and rewarding agricultural industry. Short Grass Ranches is located 8 miles N.E. of Medicine Hat.
We have many long-term employees and are looking for someone to take a role on our team. Jobs/role in this diverse operation will depend on skill set and will change throughout the year/seasons.
It is of great value having team members who can step into all/different roles as needed. The ideal (but not limited to) candidate for this position would have an interest and experience to focus more on the farming side of our operations. Class 1 is definitely an asset, but not required.

Operating feed-wage
Preparation of feeds (chopping hay, rolling grain)
Equipment Maintenance
Processing/sorting feedlot cattle
Fencing
Assisting with calving and movement of cow/calf pairs in the summer
Heavy equipment operation –
Farming equipment
Haying equipment
Tractors, front end loaders
Equipment maintenance (any mechanical skills is an asset)
Applicants must have –
Valid driver’s license (driver’s abstract required)
Class 1 license preferred, but not required
Experience and knowledge of livestock care and low stress cattle handling is an asset
Must be able to work independently and as a team
Willingness to learn
Good communication skills
Short Grass Ranches is located 8 miles from Medicine Hat. A work rotation schedule allows for weekends off during the winter feeding period. We offer a benefits package and wages will be based on experience.
Operations consist of 7000 HD backgrounding feedlot, 1200 HD cow calf operation, irrigated and dry land farming.
