ABOUT THIS POSITION
Digital Extremes is seeking an Accounting Manager to join our growing team. This role will have the opportunity to work flexibly in a hybrid or fully remote work environment. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting activities and related operations of the department. The Accounting Manager is expected to provide recommendations to help implement best practices for the department, be able to provide analysis/input on complex financial issues, and collaborate with the entire finance team to ensure timely and accurate accounting records. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, excellent attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills, and is comfortable responding to shifting demands in a challenging and fast paced environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise the department’s bank, A/R, and A/P functions including detailed review of journal entries and working papers, establishing best practices throughout
- Provide mentorship to a growing team, effectively supporting remote work & collaboration
- Lead the compilation of monthly financial statements, ensuring completeness and accuracy under strict deadlines
- Provide and execute innovative recommendations on improving current processes and internal controls
- Perform balance sheet and income statement analysis, monitor and reconcile general ledger accounts, review, prepare and record journal entries
- Create detailed, well organized and efficient Excel schedules
- Work collaboratively with the Financial Reporting Manager to develop and improve business reporting
- Perform accounting analysis for complex transactions and/or new accounting standards & amendments
- Ensure documentation for department policies and procedures are continually developed and maintained
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements by keeping up to date with current legislation
- Assist with the maintenance of proper legal and corporate records including resolutions, corporate registrations, and annual information filings
- Review tax returns for the Canadian and U.S. companies prepared by the company’s external tax consultants and ensure timely filing of all returns
- Calculate and record current and deferred tax expense entries for month-end reporting
- Collaborate with external tax consultants for guidance on complex tax matters
- Support the budgeting and forecasting process as needed
- Participate in special projects and other accounting functions and analysis as necessary, including system conversions, due diligence, and merchandise reporting
- Coordinating financial audits, liaising with external stakeholders
- Other duties as required
REQUIREMENTS
- 5+ years of applicable experience
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or business; CPA designation is preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of legislation relevant to finance
- Advanced Excel skills (e.g. PivotTables, conditional formatting, complex nested formulas)
- Proven ability to independently identify and solve problems with high attention to detail
- A dedicated self-starter with the ability to effect change and hit the ground running
- A strategic thinker with a questioning mind, willing to go the extra mile to get things right
- Commitment to teamwork; strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
- Highly organized with an interest in remote work collaboration tools and processes
- Work on weekends/holidays occasionally required to accommodate month end deadlines of the 5th of each month
