About this opportunity:
We are seeking a Sustainability Analyst who will provide support, including research, benchmarking and ad hoc analysis in support of Cenovus’s Sustainability leadership goal. As a key contributor within the Sustainability team, this position will provide support on a variety of cross-functional initiatives including Environmental Sustainability Governance (ESG) ratings and reporting, peer/industry benchmarking, data collection and trend monitoring.
What you’ll do:
Support Sustainability project leads and work with the Communications team to complete the annual ESG report in alignment with leading frameworks and evolving Investor expectations.
Participate in the data collection, validation and analysis for the ESG report and support the execution of an independent third party, verification of select key performance indicators.
Support Cenovus’s external sustainability performance reporting efforts by capturing intelligence on evolving sustainability reporting standards and frameworks, and monitoring industry, peer and global sustainability reporting and communications developments.
Review and validate information collected by third party ESG ratings services, looking for emerging trends and opportunities to enhance Cenovus’s existing disclosure.
Actively participate in internal reporting and performance initiatives such as the Sustainability Spotlight (monthly newsletter) and the ESG targets dashboard, to increase awareness of sustainability initiatives and ESG performance within the company.
Contribute to the sustainability performance index reporting process for the annual corporate scorecard to track and tie sustainability performance to compensation.
Support materiality assessments as required to ensure our internal and external view of materiality remains relevant.
Participate in the Cenovus Sustainability Advisory Council meetings and related initiatives, including material preparation as well as the tracking of actions and decisions at council meetings.
Assist with updates to Cenovus’s Sustainability and Human Rights Policies to ensure they continue to align with the company’s business goals and reflect the company’s behaviour and actions.
Provide analysis to support the company’s interactions with ESG teams at financial institutions, sustainability organizations, credit ratings agencies, and other external organizations interested in Cenovus’s sustainability performance.
Track sustainability trends to support assessment of the relevance to the company and recommendations on potential action.
Prepare benchmarking of Cenovus with respect to global energy peers and global sustainability peers as it relates to sustainability reporting, ESG ratings or other initiatives.
Who you are:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Minimum of 5+ years of related and relevant industry experience.
Completion of a degree in Business, Science, Engineering or other applicable field.
Exceptional communication skills, both written & oral.
Strong research skills, critical thinking capabilities, and attention to detail.
Previous experience in a sustainability/ESG related role, particularly ESG reporting or ESG ratings is considered an asset.
