Job Summary
Working as a member of the Live Event and Media Production Team the Supervisor of Technical Services is responsible for all operational aspects of Live Events and Media Productions. This includes ensuring that all required production documents are been approved, risks are addressed, and events are resourced and executed at the highest standards across the different Live Event Venues in the City of Mississauga.
Working with both internal and external stakeholders the Supervisor ensures that events remain viable and that technical staff and facilities are available to assist in the production process. Following up on issues and ensuring that reports are complete and submitted on time so other departments can finalize post event processes on behalf of the client.
The Supervisor provides advanced training and guidance to all production staff. Staying up to date on all current production related equipment, processes and policies.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise the set-up, operate and maintenance audio visual equipment and systems in all; City of Mississauga Culture facilities as well as other event spaces where technical staff are deployed.
- Operate specialised production equipment, including audio, broadcast, lighting, rigging, staging, and special effects for all various external client and internal city events. Ensuring productions are executed on time, meet budget, and are delivered with high quality.
- Provide direct supervision, training and motivation for staff ( both part time and Full Time) Administer third party contracts related to the Venue event operations; (i.e. Labour Services, and equipment specific Vendors).
- Undertake the responsibility for high profile and sensitive issue management to ensure accurate and timely communication to all required stakeholders.
- Ensure cross departmental thinking and collaboration, interpret individual and department concerns, anticipate issues and opportunities, take ownership, use initiative and remain solution focused to develop a team based approach to operational management.
- Identify and implement improvements to existing City Standards in event operations, City Policies and Procedures, procedures and guidelines to maximize operational efficiency.
- Oversees the day to day activities of the staff to ensure the effective and efficient management of Full time and Part Time staff.
- Drafts and submit for approval to the Manager, Events & Media Production proposals for annual technical event operations work plans and operating plans to ensure all work is identified and resourced. Overlooking timely implementation of these plans.
- Oversee and approve drawings, line drawings, wire schedules and termination of production systems for life cycle replacement/upgrades. To ensure all implementations meet required standards.
- Develop and implement training sessions for part time staff, contractors and volunteers on the effective and safe operation of production equipment and systems. Ensure technical compliance and integration with City Production standards as well as making sure proper usage is in line with all City By Laws and Codes and Health and Safety standards.
Skills and Qualifications
- Graduate from a recognized university or college in arts facility management, event Production or a related field Minimum of 5 years of experience leading Productions and production staff.
- Expert level knowledge of at least one aspect of theatre, festival and event production, broadcast.
- Have a minimum of 3 years in a related capacity with progressively responsible leadership experience
- Three to five years experience in special event production, project management, community development.
- 5 years experience multiple production disciplines such as; concert and Theatrical Rigging, Audio and Lighting Production for Concerts, Events and Broadcast
- Ability to lift supplies/materials weighing 75 – 100lbs
- Requires Ministry of Labour Working at Heights & Arial lift accreditations
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, CAD/Sketchup, and other industry standard software. Digico, ETC EOS, Tricaster, GrandMA2 Offline Editor. Dante, Optocore, Mosaic Pharos, Arkaoss Media Servers, Dlive, Wireless Work Bench, Bright Author, Adobe Editing Suite, NDI, Capture Visualizer
- Standard First Aid and CPR C certificate required
- Demonstrate leadership, team building skills and an ability to work in a flexible team environment with changing priorities
- Possess ability to establish effective working relationships in team environment.
- Have excellent judgement and analytical skills and have a working knowledge of applicable legislative requirements.
- Demonstrated organizational skills, political acumen, negotiation and conflict resolution skills and budget management.
- Client relationship-building skills are essential.
- Highly motivated self-starter with excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships.
- A Valid G Class Drivers License is required.
Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 85,155.00 - $ 113,541.00 (As of April 1, 2024: $ 86,858 - $ 115,812)
