What is the role of the Assistant Manager – Marine Guardian Programs:

As the Assistant Manager – Marine Guardian Programs, you will play a pivotal role in leading and managing initiatives focused on marine conservation and stewardship and be responsible for ensuring the well-being and protection of the marine territory of the nation. You will oversee a team of Marine Guardians whose focus will be increasing the Kwiakah First Nation presence in the land, conducting surveys, research, monitoring and collecting data on the ecological health within the territory.

Our ideal Assistant Manager- Marine Guardian Programs candidate brings:

• High School diploma with 10 years of general work experience required
• Post-secondary training and/or equivalent work experience in a Forestry/Marine camp environment required
• Minimum 5 years’ experience working with Indigenous communities and organizations
• Commercial vessel certification (SVOP) and experience operating a watercraft is required
• Driver’s Abstract required
• Knowledge of marine navigation and charting
• Experience managing and supervising a group of employees
• First Aid certification and wilderness training are advantageous
• Knowledge of Kwiakah First Nation territory and values is an asset
• Familiarity with Indigenous laws as well as federal and provincial rules and regulations
• Proficient computer skills, including Word, Excel, email and using handheld devices
• Willingness to learn additional required skills

Additional Requirements:

• This position requires working extensively in isolated conditions within the territory, including in forest, marine and lake environments
• Proficiency in outdoor environments with the necessary first aid and safety training to keep yourself and others safe on the job
