Job Title: Farm Education Assistant
Job Type: Contract April 22, 2024 – Dec 20, 2024 or March 31, 2025
40 hours/week average; evening or weekend work may be required
Deadline: March 27, 2024
Wage : $17.50-$19.00/hr based on experience
Benefits : CSA share of vegetables, optional garden plot; crop seconds

Work immediately north of Guelph, Ontario in a place of peace and community impact. Ignatius Farm is the community organic training farm of the Ignatius Jesuit Centre (IJC). IJC nurtures spiritual growth and ecological engagement through agriculture, retreats, and restoration work. Ignatius Farm grows certified organic produce for Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) members, markets, local businesses and service agencies. Farm programs include community gardens, community orchard, Small Plot Agriculture rentals, Farm Immersion Internships, New Farmer Training, working shares, volunteering and community events
The Farm Education Assistant works with the Farm Educator to deliver the Ignatius Farm New Farmer Training Program, supports Ignatius Farm community programs, and provides in-field mentorship for farm staff, volunteers and trainees to grow, harvest, and distribute quality organic produce
ACTIVITIES - Collaborate with Farm Educator to deliver New Farmer Training Program
- Host workshops - weekly online, in-person field days, hybrid in-person live Zoom events
- Facilitate online platforms and tech support for training programs
- Liaise with presenters post event (invoice request, thank you, evaluation request)
- Support program planning; event idea generating, reaching out to contacts, networking
- Lead farming activities in assigned areas of responsibility
- Lead and train field teams and volunteers in a diversity of horticultural tasks
- Work with field teams to meet goals and timelines; communicate closely for smooth collaboration; mentor workers in task and team leadership
- Assist in daily, weekly and long-range task planning
General Responsibilities: - Perform data entry, record keeping, and reporting related to above activities; review and
- generate farm processes & documentation
- Promote, create content, and take part in outreach related to above activities
- Safely utilize and maintain tools, equipment and structures according to training provided
- Plant, transplant, weed, harvest and clean crops per Organic, food safety, and quality standards
- Perform field activities efficiently and effectively, a model for volunteers, trainees, and staff
- Provide wonderful customer service

- Strawberry cropping & U-pick coordination
- Indoor crop production & greenhouse maintenance

Activity ratios: 25-50% education & community programs, 50-75% field work
DREAM FARM Education Assistant candidates have/are…- Horticulture and/or relevant farming experience, 3 years
- Ignatius Farm New Farmer Training Program alumni or equivalent training and education
- Excellent communication and people skills; effective facilitator both online and in person
- Demonstrated commitments to ecology, collaborative team work, community building, food access
- Effective researcher and problem solver
- Digital proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, Google Docs, Canva & Moodle
- Organized, able to hold a variety of responsibilities
- Physically fit – able to regularly stoop, kneel, bend, and lift 45lb crates; Work outside in any weather
- Valid G class drivers license with good driving record
