We are hiring for an individual who is committed to strength-based, person focused care to join our team as an Addiction Counsellor. The successful candidate will work as part of the Addictions Services staff treatment team. Professional registration, in good standing, is required (OCSWSSW, CRPO).

We are hiring for three (3) Addiction Counsellor positions - one (1) within Community Counselling, one (1) within our Day Treatment, and one (1) within Concurrent Supportive Housing. Addiction Counsellors work independently and intensively with program participants, meeting with participants in the office, via phone or videoconferencing. They will be required to assess complex situations and make appropriate decisions under pressure with minimal supervision.

Community Counselling is a community-based addiction treatment program providing individual and group counselling. Counsellors will create individualized treatment plans with participants to address their goals.

Day Treatment is an intensive 2-week substance use treatment program. Addiction Counsellors primarily provide group-based treatment, facilitating 2-week treatment cycles, weekly support groups and periodic workshops to support participants in reaching their individualized substance use goals.

Concurrent Supportive Housing works to provide addiction counselling and support to individuals living in a supportive housing environment. Addiction Counsellors within this program can expect to meet with participants in their home or communal space and involves traveling to different locations within the Waterloo Region. A housing first model, this program aims to support those actively seeking to make change to their substance use, as well as support those whose substance use may be affecting their ability to remain housed. Time with participants may involve psychotherapeutic, supportive and skill-based counselling depending on participants stage of change and individual goals. Motivation interviewing and harm reduction approaches may frequently be used.

** This is a permanent, salaried, full-time (37.5 hours per week) position with paid sick time, personal days, vacation time, group health benefits and defined contribution pension plan. Primarily daytime, weekday hours. Evening shift(s) may be required based on program needs. **

** Applicants must be authorized, in good standing, with the Ontario College of Social Workers & Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). Successful completion of a Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector) is required pre-employment.
Valid G class driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle are required for travel throughout the Region of Waterloo and Wellington County. **

o We are a Living Wage employer as defined by the Ontario Living Wage Network
o We use a 3.5:1 ratio meaning that the highest paid team member is not paid more than 3.5 times than the lowest paid team member
At House of Friendship all compensation ranges are categorized under a series of "grades" and we base our payment structure on internal equity. When determining rate of pay, a candidate's past related experience will be taken into consideration along with where others with similar experience are currently on the pay grid. Note: Due to the internal composition of our pay grids, many team members with lengthy experience are between the start and mid-point of the range and therefore most new team members will be placed accordingly.
