Job Description
Reporting to the Senior Dental Therapist and the Manager of Primary Care, the Dental Therapist will provide prevention services, diagnostic treatment planning, restorative/operative dental treatment, community and preventive dentistry services to children in the Dental Health Program. The incumbent specializes in stimulating, coordinating, and delivering oral health promotion activities aimed at reducing disease and promoting oral health for people in the community. Incumbents must have an ability to work independently and within multi-disciplinary teams.
The incumbent will plan, develop, organize, implement and evaluate the delivery of an active preventive oral health education and promotion program within the dental professional's scope of practice. Qualifications: Education
- Graduate from a recognized dental therapy program with a diploma of Dental Therapy or Dental Nurse.
- Eligible for registration with the Saskatchewan Dental Therapists' Association Experience:
- Extensive experience in using computers/equipment/related software.
Additional training would be an asset
- Experience/training in health promotion, public relations projects and/or media
- Must possess a valid class 5 driver's license
- CPR/ First Aid Training would be an asset
- Ability to travel on remote northern roads and fly in small aircraft to remote communities

- Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement. HSAS seniority within the Saskatchewan Health Authority will be considered under the Selection Criteria.

- Comprehensive knowledge of health principles/determinants of health/population-based outcomes including oral health, and their relationship to overall health and disease as applied to public health practice (population-based)
- Knowledge of current scientific information/research/best practice related to oral health, preschool oral health and other related health issues.
- Comprehensive knowledge of current infection control standards, practices and protocols.
- Knowledge of how to prepare for and utilize the media (e.g.: press, radio and television)
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills
- Highly developed interpersonal skills to interact with clients, parents, health professionals, and community leaders/groups in a positive and culturally appropriate manner
- Highly developed organizational/multi-tasking skills
- Ability to problem solve, be creative and innovative, take initiative
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills
- Strong computer skills (word processing, data entry)
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Knowledge of the program planning process
- Ability to address health-related issues or life skills, other than oral health (eg. personal hygiene, promote immunization and breastfeeding)
- Ability to work in a cross cultural environment
- Ability to work in northern/isolated areas Relocation Assistance of up to a maximum of $3,000 for a 1 year return for service.
Recruitment incentives may be available depending on eligibility. The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) requires a criminal record check (CRC) from every potential SHA team member. The CRC must be dated within the past six (6) months and be satisfactory to the SHA. A vulnerable sector check (VSC) is required for individuals providing patient/resident/client care to vulnerable persons. Internal candidates may be required to provide a CRC and/or VSC during the recruitment and selection process.
