JOB OVERVIEW  

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of a Communications Officer.

Reporting to the Section Manager, this position is responsible for providing support to the Section Manager through development and execution of OPG's social media program, including X, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc. This will include writing, editing, designing, and publishing social content; collaboration with internal and external designer(s) for graphic/video development support; channel monitoring and community moderation; liaising with subject matter experts and stakeholders (internal and external partners); and ongoing reporting. Help manage, develop, and execute content for external email communications. This will include writing, editing, publishing, and deploying email content; liaising with content subject matter experts; assisting with email development; and working with IT partners to troubleshoot and resolve technical concerns. Research, write and edit communications content for use in social media campaigns, emails, website, social media campaigns, and other communications projects.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

• Create, develop and execute OPG’s social media program across social channels including Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Snapchat.This will include writing, editing, designing, and publishing social content; collaboration with internal and external designer(s) for graphic/video development support; channel monitoring and community moderation; liaising with subject matter experts and stakeholders (internal and external partners); and ongoing reporting.
• Help manage and provide direction to content committee to generate stories for OPG’s social media channels
• Help manage, develop and execute content for external email communications. This will include writing, editing, publishing, and deploying email content; liaising with content subject matter experts; assisting with email development; and working with IT partners to troubleshoot and resolve technical concerns.
• Help triage and respond to public inquiries.
• Maintain a response database for public inquiries.
• Research, write and edit communications content for use in social media campaigns, emails, website, and other communications projects.
• Establish and sustain sound working relationships with key sources within OPG to create ongoing opportunities for content development. This will include regular weekly calls with site contacts and cold calls to sources.
• Establish and sustain sound working relationships with external subject matter experts in the field of social media, as well as OPG partners (business, environmental, etc.), in order to develop social media programs and campaigns.
• Assist and manage development of communications plans, including social media calendar, and email communications, based on approved activities and creation of communications opportunities.
• Assist in the identification and implementation of corporate relations and communications strategies, processes, and programs.
• Implement community relations and employee communications programs and solutions to address issues and impacts.
• Attend employee and public events at OPG locations, the site information centres, or in the local community as required to capture content for social media or other communications programs.
• Keep abreast of new media and social media options and emerging trends in web technologies.
• Assist in providing information to and coordinating spokesperson responses to employees, community stakeholders, and media.
• Assist in monitoring the effectiveness of communications programs and strategies.
• Provide back-up support in the planning and execution of employee events.

EDUCATION

• 4 year University Degree in the area of communications, marketing, public relations or journalism. 

QUALIFICATIONS

• 6+ years of experience with digital and social media, experience in developing web-based communications materials, and proficiency with publishing and content management systems.
• Requires strong writing skills and experience in writing for a variety of digital mediums, with a focus on social media.
• Requires experience with basic graphic/video design, project management and developing communications.
• Requires experience with digital publishing and social monitoring tools.
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a flexible hybrid office environment.
