About the Awaken Festival:
Each spring, Gwaandak Theatre presents the Awaken Festival. Featuring performance showcases, in-person and online workshops, industry nights and more, this hybrid festival aims to provide training opportunities for Indigenous and Northern artists as well as interested members of the public.
As winter transforms into spring, life wakes up in the North. Mother Bears pass on knowledge to their cubs in order for them to thrive on their own. Awaken - so to speak - connects “cubs” (new and aspiring artists) to “mother bears” (experienced artists). Join us this spring & Awaken new beginnings within yourself and your community!
About Gwaandak Theatre:
Gwaandak Theatre Society is the Yukon’s only professional Indigenous-led theatre company. Our stories question, honour, and celebrate. They explore themes around decolonization, cultural identity, social justice, underrepresented voices and human rights. We tour to both tiny communities and major centres, and provide comprehensive study guides for secondary schools and colleges. Gwaandak Theatre develops, produces and tours plays for both youth and adults. Our programming also includes new play workshops, readings and training for theatre artists.
