Summary

General Motors Canada Strategy & Business Planning team partners with key business stakeholders across the enterprise to solve important problems that deliver significant growth & productivity. We are currently looking for the best and brightest talent who have a passion for innovation, artificial intelligence and new business development. The focus on this position will be to maximize contributions to the whole organization.

Hybrid: This position will be located onsite three days per week between sites at either Markham or Oshawa Ontario. Travel will be on an as needed basis in this role.

Job Description

The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional business leaders and help to define the AI roadmap for GM Canada. They will be responsible for development and deployment of AI/ML models within the company. The successful candidate will report to the Director of Strategy & Planning and will have regular interaction with the Senior Leadership Team. The Manager will have ownership and accountability for driving a data-driven culture, project portfolio, intellectual property ideation, project execution, technology insertion and customer adoption.

Core Responsibilities
  • Oversight and accountability for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Initiatives, project deliverables, and development of an AI/ML Strategy Innovation Roadmap
  • Execute and supervise the development of analytics models to improve existing enterprise business methods and processes
  • Work cross-functionally with business teams to develop AI Innovation strategies. Analyze large datasets to extract actionable insights and patterns that drive business decisions.
  • Identify high value analytic opportunities, and manage project from creation to completion
  • Communicate findings and results to technical and non-technical stakeholders through visualizations, reports, and presentations.
  • Exemplify corporate values and drive a culture of accountability, innovation, and change. Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation

Required Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor/Master's/Ph.D. degree of Computer Science/Engineering, Math degree or equivalent
  • 7+ years as a Data Scientist with 3+ years managing highly focused technical teams
  • Capable of leading teams to translate business questions into experiments, analyses or applied modeling initiatives.
  • Product Management Experience of data science projects and automation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a deep understanding of mathematical modeling and deterministic and stochastic optimization techniques
  • Proficiency in Python along with experience in other programming languages such as Java, or C++ for algorithm development and implementation with a strong understanding of OOP.
  • Experience with optimization libraries (e.g., CPLEX, Gurobi, OR-Tools, CasADi, Pymoo, PySwarms) for solving large-scale discrete and continuous multicriteria constrained optimization problems.
  • Experience in designing end-to-end optimization systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of algorithms and data structure
  • Familiarity with DevOps principles
  • Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently and optimally with cross-functional teams, local and remote and to present findings

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Experience supporting Sales, Marketing and/or Finance functions
  • Experience in relevant machine learning areas such as large language models (LLMs) as optimizers, amortized optimization, and contextual multi-armed bandits
  • Hands-on experience using least one machine learning framework
  • Experience with data tools and ecosystems (Hive, Spark, etc.).
  • Experience using SQL/NoSQL and knowledge in database management
  • Track record of technical creativity and development of intellectual property
  • Knowledge of Innovation Theory, processes and methods
  • Experience in developing Centers of Expertise and Technology Roadmaps
  • Experiences with customer centric design, Design Thinking and agile/SAFe methodologies
