Road Marker 1 (3 Temporary – up to 8 months)

Engineering & Public Works Department

 

POSITION FUNCTION

Assist in the installation, maintenance, and removal of road markings and sign and posts, and removal of graffiti.

 

KEY DUTIES

Assist with installation, maintenance, and removal of road features such as painted road and curb markings and symbols, signs, signposts, pavement markers, and bollards; excavate and mix and place concrete for installation of signposts; clean and prepare surfaces for paint application; mark out layout prior to installation; place and collect cones and signs in work area.

 

Operate a vehicle and trailer for transport of equipment and materials ; assist with the operation of various paint application and removal equipment; use various hand tools such as hammer drill, angle grinder, coring machine, and post straightener; perform routine maintenance and cleaning of paint machines, spray guns and other equipment; load and unload equipment manually or using a forklift .

 

Remove or paint over graffiti from City property.

 

Perform related duties where qualified.

 

INDEPENDENCE

Work is assigned and reviewed by supervisor.

Problems are referred to supervisor.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Effort:

Lift and move heavy equipment and materials. (often)

Perform repetitious tasks such as scraping, brushing, and shovelling. (frequent)

Work Environment:

Work outside in all weather conditions. (continuous)

KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Understand and carry out job related instructions.

Discuss job related matters.

Operate various hand and power tools and painting equipment.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner.

Work and operate equipment safely.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:

Grade 10.

Current and valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's Licence.

Experience:

1 year of related experience.

or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

OTHER:

May be requested to substitute in a more senior position.

 

Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm (40 hour work week)

$32.09 per hour, Pay Grade 4
