The Planning Division is the administrative arm of local government whose function is to recommend the form of future development in Cornwall, and to make recommendations to Council on private development applications. 

Job Description - Planning Student

Reporting to the Manager of Planning, the Planning Student will help department staff with their duties over the course of the summer. The position is based out of the Cornwall Civic Complex.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the review of various development applications, including Community Improvement Plan (CIP) applications.
• Conduct research / review demographic information and other sources to support the updating of various resource documents (e.g. Data Book).
• Assist planning staff prepare for meetings (eg Planning Advisory & Hearing Committee (PAC), Committee of Adjustment (COA), and the Waterfront Committee).
• Provide support to Planning staff regarding enquires from the public on matters related to development.
• Assist in the updating and filing of various Planning records.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Experience in customer service is an asset.
• Knowledge of planning and development is an asset.
• Ability to work in other languages is an asset.
• Valid Class G driver's license is an asset.
