ABOUT US:
As part of an alliance agreement Aecon Nuclear has been awarded a contract with Ontario Power Generation to support the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP). Beginning in 2023 Aecon will support the validation phase design, procurement, early site preparation and site mobilization scope for the Construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site
ABOUT THE POSITION:
Reporting to the Engineering/Technical Manager, the Permanent Works Design Coordinator will be required to provide coordination and technical direction to construction and engineering resources on permanent works design and perform the following duties:
- Review drawings and reports prepared by the designers in accordance with the project specifications and constructability cost and time efficiency.
- Coordinate with other departments such as construction & methods team, to provide their review and comment in due time.
- Coordinate with other teams within the design team and with other department (construction, means & methods…) addressing any potential conflicts in the most beneficial way for the project as a whole;
- Follow the designer works to track the progress in respect with the design schedule;
- Keep a proper follow up of the modifications table during design (design input table, RFI…), or during construction (NCR/FCR…) in the view to prepare the As-built documentation.
- Identify and record any change from the design, with quantity
- Propose changes to the structures, pursuing cost and constructability optimization and risk mitigation;
- Work closely with the designers and construction team to prepare thermal control plan for concrete elements.
- Supervise thermal concrete control with QA/QC team and technical filed engineer;
- Prepare plan and track system for all As-built drawings;
- Work closely with external subcontractors and supplier during their submittal including materials/ samples/plans/CWP/ and shop drawings,
- Coordinate between the rebar supplier and construction team, including review rebar shop drawing and record changing/ proposal and field modification.
- Work closely with QA/QC and the designer to prepare inspection plans.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM:
- Bachelor of Engineering Degree from a recognized university, or Diploma from a Technical College in Engineering and/or Architecture
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer in Ontario or actively working towards preferred
- Previous work experience in design and coordination structures and infrastructures including heavy civil and foundation with filed experience.
- Proficient knowledge of project engineering processes and procedures
- Technical knowledge related to engineering systems, calculations and applications of engineering and construction methods and materials
- Excellent computer skills using Adobe Acrobat, Auto CAD and SIM
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills Able to interact with external stakeholders.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Able to perform in a fast paced environment.
- Prolonged sedentary positioning.
- Occasional travel between sites and head office.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
- Due to the nature of work conducted by Aecon, mandated OPG Security Clearance requirements must be met for employment
