As the buyer in training, you will:
- Research new brands, products, and purchase for a defined area of the store including opportunity buys (closeouts, end of season sales)
- Work with vendors to obtain discounts, negotiate cost and terms, co-op, and prizing
- Collaborate with floor manager to plan and execute merchandise displays and product placement
- Attend buying meeting and market shows to identify new products and trends
- Communicate new product knowledge, promotions, deadlines and ship dates with managers, warehouse, and staff
- Analyze product performance reports, buying patterns, research trends and manage stock levels.
- Assisting with the website, including putting items on the site, altering pricing, altering content and/or imagery
- Work on the sales floor merchandising and selling
Requirements
- Passion to learn the buying function and contribute to the financial achievement of department goals
- Enjoys a challenge and uses their creatively and product knowledge to meet customer needs
- Passion for the outdoors and outdoor activities who enjoys being involved in the community
- Excellent people skills, a collaborative team player who is willing to assume a variety of tasks
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to multi-task with strong attention to detail
- Basic retail math
- Valid Driver’s License
