Job Description

What You’ll Do:

Reporting to the Director, Data Platforms, you will define OTIP’s data governance strategy and policies to guide the extent to which the organization’s data will be used. This role governs who can access what kinds of data and what kinds of data are under governance to ensure that OTIP’s data is managed and used like an asset in an effective, efficient, and secure manner. You will also play a key role in establishing OTIP’s data governance framework. You will collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure key data issues are represented in OTIP’s policies, and enforce data governance policies, processes, standards and identify data gaps.

The core parts of your role will be to: 

• Create, execute, and manage a range of data governance policies addressing OTIP’s various requirements, data usage, data protection, data retention, data sovereignty and privacy. 
• Partner with the business and Data Product Manager in developing forward-thinking policies to address broader data governance issues. 
• Support effective decision-making regarding data, in adherence with OTIP’s established goals and vision for data usage. 
• Identify and prioritize users for the data to determine what data is critical to specific users. 
• Determine what types of decisions the data will inform for tracking purposes. 
• Troubleshoots data use issues, including lack of access for users that need access to support decision-making and provides general user support. 
• Lead the implementation of the data governance roadmap and ensure it aligns with OTIP’s Data Strategy.
• Serve as a liaison between OTIP’s Technology Enablement department and the rest of the Business to ensure that data related business requirements for governing data are clearly defined, communicated, well understood, and considered as part of operational prioritization and planning. 
• Define KPIs and other quality metrics and run reports to ensure compliance with data related policies, standards, and adoption requirements. 
• Proactively champions the value of data as a strategic business asset and revenue generator by providing the business and strategy teams with ideas and promoting those ideas into action; including developing and implementing communication, learning, change management and adoption plan.

Qualifications

Let’s Talk About You: 

This is the unique blend of skills and experience we would love to see in an ideal candidate:

• A bachelor’s or engineering degree in Business Technology, Information Technology, Data Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or a related discipline, or equivalent experience. Other advanced degrees (MBA, MSc., etc.) are considered an asset. 

• 5-8 years experience in Strategic and Operational Data Governance, Data Quality Management, Data Security, Risk Management and controls in Technology or data management in the Financial Services or Insurance industry. 

• Solid understanding of “Data Governance” as a data discipline and the theory behind it 

• Extensive experience with DevOps Processes. 

• Proficient in Cloud Security and Cloud Technology Fundamentals 

• Familiarity with one of the following platforms:

• Collibra (Data Governance Software) 

• Profisee (Master Data Management / Metadata Management) 

• Proven experience effectively leading technological program development. 

• Ability to generate innovative and valuable ideas and guide business solutions. 

• Highly analytical individual with advanced problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail. 

• Experience with agile development methodologies. 

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
