Restoration Technician

Summary

YSR is in search of a Restoration Technician to join our growing team. This position provides a unique
opportunity to be a part of the Yukon’s growing restoration and reclamation economy. The Restoration
Technician will undertake a variety of tasks related to the implementation of reclamation, restoration,
and nature-based design projects throughout the Yukon for communities, industry, government, and
non-governmental organizations. The Restoration Technician will be particularly important in assisting in
the implementation of field and community projects in FNNND’s Traditional Territory that embody and
align with the principles of Dooli Law. This position is predominantly a field work role, and will work

closely with the Restoration Ecologist. A love for the natural world and desire to restore and steward the
vibrant Yukon landscape is a must. This position is for summer 2024, with possibilities of extension.

Corporate Background

Yukon Seed and Restoration Inc. (YSR) is a subsidiary of Na-Cho Nyäk Dun Development Corporation
(NNDDC), the development corporation for the Citizens of the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyäk Dun.
YSR provides ecocultural restoration services and community-based environmental training through
project planning, native plant research, and field ecology projects in the Yukon. We help industry,
Indigenous, and non-profit organizations meet regulatory, social, and environmental goals to ultimately
make the land good.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

The Restoration Technician’s tasks will include:

• Assisting in ecological and reclamation related field work. This will include site assessments,
  reclamation research, and planting projects.
• Preparing gear for the field, keeping equipment organized and in good working condition.
• Collecting field data for YSR projects, including native plant communities and soil classification in
  remote locations.
• Performing seed collection, which will include plant ID, operating and maintaining seed cleaning
  equipment, and cataloging seed inventories with a high attention to detail.
• Supporting the facilitation team in training initiatives. This will include operating trucks,
  shuttling equipment and preparing training materials.
• Data entry and tablet/ GPS uploads for mapping and reporting projects onto the YSR database.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will:

• Be a post-secondary student in a natural resource field.
• Have some field experience in ecology, native plants, and reclamation.
• Have safe work practices, are detail oriented, and organized.
• Be comfortable working in remote areas of the Yukon.
• Be willing and able to work independently and take initiative to carry out activities to improve
  operations.
• Be willing to spend much of the summer field season (approximately a week at a time) in
  remote locations, including hotel and camp settings.
• Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Have experience using a GPS in the field.
• Have a valid Class 5 Yukon license or equivalent (required).

Considered an Asset

• Have experience working in the Yukon or similar northern settings.
• Have familiarity with First Nations communities and have respect for Indigenous ways of
  knowing.
• Have experience using Microsoft Office Suite (or similar) software.
• Hold a valid certification in Wilderness First Aid and be aware of wilderness survival techniques.
