Technical Procurement Specialist
Reporting to the Senior Commodity Manager, the Technical Procurement Specialist will be the primary liaison between Project Management, R&D and Commodity Managers. They will ensure Procurement is aligned with requirements as needed for New Product Launches (Stage Gate), CN's, and VAVE initiatives by their respective business unit. They will have a great technical knowledge of the product and be well versed in the product development process. The Technical Procurement Specialist will be accountable for tracking and ensuring tasks are complete on time, ultimately accountable for the procurement tasks and assignments.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities: - Represent and manage all Procurement activities at Stage Gate, CN and VAVE meetings. Includes tracking and reporting of status back to cross functional team. Communicating requirements to the Purchasing team and overall accountability for on time completion.
- Strong technical understanding of the product and how purchased parts and manufactured parts integrate for each product; for fit, form and function (i.e. how one impacts the other; manufacturing processes, critical components, etc.)
- Use Project Management tools, (including Monday.COM) to track that tasks and milestones are achieved and contingencies are developed. Hold everyone accountable to timing and deliverables.
- Escalate and problem solve any delays or threats to projects with recovery plan recommendation to align with Project Management Lead (Project Management, R&D or Product Management as applicable).
- Work with Quality to ensure all Supplier Quality expectations for new programs are met, including supplier scorecard, quality assessments, PPAP etc.
- Effective problem solving to ensure a high sense of urgency to work with suppliers to manage risks to production; support to resource alternatives and mitigate any potential risk.
- Work with Commodity Managers to review and follow through on all CN's. Responsible to raise CN's and provide sufficient information for approval, including ROI information.
- Work with Project Management Office (PMO), and where applicable R&D and Product Management, to conduct supplier risk assessments including technical, quality, process, and capacity.
- Provide analytical summaries and develop presentations as required.
- Participate on VAVE /Innovation team with a Procurement focus. Driver for purchasing VAVE savings, including tracking and reporting status. Understand innovation projects and future impacts to purchasing needs, including close collaboration with innovation Technical Scout.
- Detailed understanding of product roadmaps and impact to future purchasing needs; including looking for strategic opportunities to increase supply security, improve quality and reduce cost.
- Well versed in Product Life Cycle Management (PLM) system [Bluestar], including understanding prototype, quotation, and production release. Responsible for managing the quotation phase. Collaborates closely with planning on launch and build out activities.
Education and Experience: - College/University; technical discipline preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in Supply Chain within a manufacturing environment, including experience in new product development.
- Project Management Certification; Technical or Business Degree.
- Microsoft Office applications; Project Management software, ERP supply chain workflow; presentation and excel are a must! Monday.com experience is an asset.
- Strong understanding and ability to read technical drawings.
- Effective time management & resourceful problem-solving skills to mitigate risks.
- Proven ability in Project Management.
- Superior communication and collaboration.
- Ability to summarize strategy into a clear, compelling, and concise narrative.
