As part of the Origination Team, the Origination Specialist is responsible for conceptual development of market opportunities, promoting concepts internally and externally, identifying operational and financial requirements and risks, and ensuring settlement and reporting functions are accurate. The Origination Specialist also interacts with energy trading contacts for the negotiation/administration of hedging contracts and general partner engagement, along with managing customer relationships with NB Energy Marketing’s (NBEM) customers.

This role has a large financial impact on NB Energy Marketing’s gross margin by expanding its business into new markets as well as maintaining existing customers. In addition to the business development, this role has undertaken the responsibility of managing the fuel and purchased power hedging portfolios along with building tools to better monitor market behaviors and modelling opportunities outside of the regular NB Power financial forecasts.

Key functions include:

• Export load pricing and procurement in surrounding provinces and Northeastern United States.

• Conduct data, energy market, and financial modelling. Perform statistical analysis on energy markets, forward and futures curves, and energy use behaviors of NBEM’s export customers.

• Assist with managing Fuel and Purchased Power hedging portfolios along with evaluating risk mitigation instruments and strategies. Build strong client relationships with global energy traders (for example: investment banks and other utilities) and NBEM customers.

Our ideal teammate will have:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering OR;

• Bachelor of Computer Science Degree OR;

• Bachelor of Business Administration Degree

Combined with:

• Eight years of related experience with at least five of those years in data & financial modelling

• Three years of experience with Microsoft Access, SQL, R, Python, or other relational databases and programming languages

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

• Interest in energy markets

• Knowledge of risk mitigation strategies and instruments

An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.

An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.
