Summary of Duties:
Reports to the Senior Transportation Technologist. Assists in the design, installation, operation and maintenance of the City's traffic signals and street lights. Assists in the development, implementation, operation and maintenance of electronic Computerized Traffic Signal Control Systems (C.T.S.C.S.).
Work Performed:
- Prepares engineering designs and contract documents for the installation, repair and/or maintenance of traffic signal installations, street light installations and Computerized Traffic Signal Control Systems (C.T.S.C.S.).
- Directs and coordinates outside agencies in the resolution of traffic signal and street light infrastructure problems.
- Operates multiple C.T.S.C.S. by implementing and maintaining the operation of approved traffic signal timing plans through the application of vendor software/operating systems.
- Reviews and recommends for acceptance designs and drawings pertaining to traffic signal and street light installations submitted by engineering consultants, developers, contractors, and others for approval by the Division.
- Reviews and recommends updates to City of London Contract Documents with respect to design standards, procurement of services to construct and maintain for traffic signals, street lights and C.T.S.C.S.
- Maintains accurate records and backup copies regarding the data base utilized for C.T.S.C.S. operation.

- Monitors the performance of the C.T.S.C.S. and related hardware identifying operational problems, rectifying these problems and/or coordinates outside agencies or contractors to resolve these problems.
- Assists in the administration of traffic signal, street light and C.T.S.C.S. contracts by preparing cost estimates, inspecting for quality and quantity control and preparing payment certificates.
- Assists in the development, procurement and implementation of new C.T.S.C.S.
- Investigates, analyzes and responds to verbal and written complaints regarding traffic signal, street light and C.T.S.C.S. infrastructure problems.
- Performs field studies required for the identification and analysis of traffic signal, street light and traffic operational problems.
- Develops, codes, tests and documents computer programs for the compilation of field data and analysis of traffic signal related problems.
- Develops, codes, tests and documents support programs for the C.T.S.C.S. to enhance the monitoring, reporting and problem identification capabilities of the system.
- Maintains a good working knowledge of computer scripting languages as they are developed.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a three year Community College Transportation Technology program.
- Member of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technician and Technologist (OACETT) as a Certified Engineering Technologist.
- International Municipal Signal Association Level 1 and 2 Certification is an asset
Experience:
Four years of previous related experience
Specialized Training & Licenses:
Skills and abilities in the following areas are necessary:
- Valid Driver's Licence - Class G.
- Demonstrated proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets and various software.
- Proficiency using technical software utilized in the position.
- Working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and Highway Traffic Act.
Compensation & Other Information:
$58,649 - $85,218 (Level 14)
This posting is for (1) permanent full-time position.
Current hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Work Arrangement: Hybrid, 50% work in office and 50% work from home. Subject to change in accordance to business requirements.
These hours of work are subject to change in accordance with the Collective Agreement and may include evening hours and Saturdays.
