The OpportunityProvides credit structuring, credit underwriting, risk management and client facing support for complex lending arrangements within the specialized Real Estate team.

This role involves credit underwriting as well as monitoring and control activities. The role holder will have a full understanding of the organization's credit policies and existing credit arrangements. The role has contact with clients in fulfilling regular monitor and control activities while working closely with the Relationship Management team.

Daily activities:Effectively manage deal administration in achieving financial targets for department

Provide support to the full specialized Real Estate team in achieving financial objectives through effective and timely credit underwriting for highly complex new and existing borrower opportunities, while balancing risk and reward in line with CWB’s risk appetite. Assist the team in identifying full-service solutions for clients with the view to be every client’s primary financial partner. Support the AVP & Manager, Real Estate Accounts in developing recommendations for driving deeper business relationships and/or effectively managing emerging risks with existing clientele.

Collaborate with the team in optimizing the overall profitability of relationships, within assigned portfolio, with new and existing clients based on return guidelines, customer risk profile, total banking relationship, and competitive environment. Actively generate leads & refer clients to other business partners both within branch banking and across CWB.Managing credit activities within enterprise risk appetite

Manage credit activities to ensure prudent lending with proactive risk management, including timely monitoring, due diligence, and recommendations, within the assigned portfolio. Work with Relationship Managers to develop terms of credit, produce ongoing credit reviews and risk ratings that reflect strong knowledge of CWB policies and procedures.Recommend appropriate credit structures and optimize operational efficiency through effective interactions with Credit Risk Management and the relationship management team. Ensure required reports and financial data are received and analyzed promptly in accordance with loan commitments.

Be accountable for timely and consistent completion of annual reviews and reports, while proactively identifying and taking appropriate action on issues, particularly with respect to delinquent, watch list and Out of Order accounts.

Assist with management of negative trending accounts with consultation with AVP & Manager, Real Estate Accounts and Credit Risk Department, as required. Ensure efficient and effective operations with strong data integrity including strong collaboration with other CWB teams, within the assigned branch/market and Credit Risk department. Ensure products and services are sold and operate in a compliant manner minimizing regulatory compliance and operational risk.

Act as a credit subject matter expert, including relevant industry and market trends and the associated credit structuring. Complete all compliance training and attestations within required timelines. Professional EngagementLive CWB Values & act as a champion for change in line with CWB strategy.

Skills that will take you furtherEducationBachelor’s degree in business, commerce, or related discipline. Equivalent work experience considered. Professional Experience6+ years financial services experience within functions of real estate lending, banking and/or business lending, including significant direct experience with commercial real estate credit underwriting.

Leadership and/or coaching experience considered an asset. Proven skills in financial statement analysis and knowledge of effective risk mitigation strategies for credit underwriting. Personal CompetenciesA highly motivated team player who puts people first, builds relationships, embraces change, strives for inclusivity, and is thoughtful around their actions - all while armed with a sense urgency, ownership & community pride.

Exceptional financial analysis skills to ensure credit structures are within CWB’s thresholds for risk. Strongly established analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as sound judgement and time management. Proven influencing and collaboration skills with the ability to work across business units and corporate office departments.

Robust understanding of common business issues, industry trends, seasonality, and key risks, while constantly building this knowledge as needed to ensure that all risks are appropriately mitigated on assigned loan portfolio. Exceptional verbal, written, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Expert knowledge of collateral security and documentation requirements. Strong computer and business modeling skills. Experience with banking and loan origination systems is an asset.
